I agree that the CM clearly misread the situation. I understand that he was trying to "protect" his direct customers though.
When we were there is May/June a PP photographer (or maybe it was Mike himself) refused to allow us to take one of our photos with Mike and Sulley where my husband was in front of Mike mostly blocking him-like he always ends up on the covers in the movie.
I can't work out why-its my photo as long as I am not doing rude gestures (or similar) than what was it the PP Photogos business or right to refuse....

The whole premise behind the success of Disney is based on our ability to relax and have fun like children again. This whole thread reminds me of a time that I chastised my youngest son for messing around in the TV room while we were watching a movie together. He was laughing and carrying on, but it was a bit noisy. I told him to "Stop acting like a child". He reminded me that he was a child (he was 10). I shut up.

In WDW, we are all children.

Sadly, photo bombing isn't reserved for PP situations. Last year we waited in line for almost an hour for BTMRR (June trip). When we went to see our ride photo we were told that someone else in our car had made a rude gesture, so the photo was deemed inappropriate. We were truly disappointed that someone could be so selfish. We moved past it, but were worried about how many other families might be missing that little bit of magic because of an inconsiderate kid.

We disagree - that's cool. I have no problem with people who photobomb on purpose if they are just trying to be funny (again - nothing vulgar).

I have this wonderful photo of my grandkids in front of Cinderella's Castle all lit up. They are smiling and happy and it was something that could only happen once in their lives. My granddaughter is holding my grandson, their heads are together and they are content. One of my daughter-in-law's most precious memories.

So, if someone intentionally walked behind them and made a funny face as the photo was taken, I should laugh if off because they were trying to be funny? I don't get that at all.

Rude or vulgar gestures are one thing, but someone making a silly face in the background? I just have an incredibly hard time wrapping my head around the concept of that picture being "ruined" in any way, shape, or form. If it was happening in a studio where you don't expect the autonomous individuals in the crowd that surrounds you to be doing whatever they feel like? Sure. In an amusement park? I just can't begin to comprehend it.

And, yes, I would be very angry at the perpetrators.
But, it's not "terminal."
It's a photo.

And, I could fix it in Photoshop (or, in the years before I learned the app, I could find someone I knew who could.)

Also, "Photoshop" is an expensive application (and worth every cent,) however
there are many other photo correction apps on the web that are free and that could
erase or diminish flaws.

Over the years on this very site, I have helped many other DISers (via PM) who've had photo glitches and problems.
I'm happy to help when I can.

The thing is, I think, with PhotoPass, Disney has set the expectations for photos higher. You're being asked to spend several hundred dollars on your "precious memories". As they're formalizing and monetizing vacation snapshots, people are naturally beginning to expect them to be studio quality, suitable for framing, etc. Disney's MO has always been to sell you the "perfect" widget--their photos are no exception.

Plus, photos are no longer just for your own memories and amusement. The expectation now is that at least some of them will be offered up for wide consumption on a social network, adding to the expectation that they look flattering/deliberate/enviable.

Similar to (and likely springing from) the great "anonymity" afforded by the internet.

A lot of people's natural tendency runs to "getting noticed,"
but many are not creative enough (or want to expend the effort necessary) to accomplish the notability by doing/creating something positive.

So, they "agitate, pester and rile" others to get what will be an "easy reaction"
(often delayed, as in the unseen until finally viewed) and, at the same time,
the perpetrators are long gone. Only their now "anonymous mischief" remains...

"HAW-HAW, Wait 'til they see THAT picture! HAW HAW!"

That level of negative hubris astounds most civilized people.

I choose to look at it as the juvenile mindset that "I am on vacation and I can do whatever I want because I paid a lot of money and no one knows me here."

It irks me to no end the people who walk between the PP and the subjects, too. How can you not see the person with the camera or the people not moving?

We only make silly faces/poses (never anything vulgar!!) when were on a ride like Dinosaur when our faces won't show up in anyone else's picture. I guess I'm the minority. I'm pretty awesome, but I don't think strangers would find me entertaining in their family photo albums.

You *are* in other people's photos in that situation. What if someone else on the ride wanted to buy the ride photo/had photopass+ and intended on getting the digital download?

If their family/group is large enough to fill a car, then no... They aren't in other people's photos at all, it would be just their own group. I think those cars only fit 6-8, right? Perfectly reasonable.
