How old is too old for a kid/teen to wear a costume to disney?

[a princess dress, alice costume]

:guilty:

A teen?...wearing a costume...I'd be surprised about that. Do they WANT to wear one?..or don't they?

At MNSSHP all ages wear costumes. I don't usually see teens on regular days in costumes.

I saw if your child (whatever the age) wants to wear on then let her!! My DD9 is dressing in a princess costume for our Cinderella Breakfast and my other DD16 wants her hair done and a crown too! I say why not! They are only young once!!

Other than a special event party the cutoff date is when they have to buy an adult ticket.

I'm not clear on this...but the OP didn't mention it was for a party...or character interaction?...I'm not saying a teen shouldn't wear one if the WANT to..just that I wouldn't push a teen to wear one if the DIDN'T want to ..regardless of where it is. I think grown ups get into the theme of things..and I've been known to walk around with Minnie ears..and a princess hat myself (and I looked marvelous!:cutie: )..but my teenage son would NOT BE CAUGHT DEAD with a costume on. My daughter on the other hand, would wear her goofy hat everywhere but swimming! That's why I ask..when she says "teen"..just how old..and a girl or boy? If they want to wear one...Good for them!:thumbsup2 ...If they don't...I wouldn't force them.

Ooops..just noticed you posted..princess or alice costume..so guess we're talking a girl here..but how old? If she wants to wear one..have fun!

I think it's up to whatever child is wearing it.

When we were there last I saw 3 teen girls walk by wearing princesses dresses that they sell in the parks. The girls looked about age 16. They must have purchased the largest size to get them to fit their torso. The dresses stoped just above their knees. I thought it was kinda silly at first but then I thought it was just plain fun! I'll bet they have a lot of cute pictures from that day.

No older than 75 or 80. After that it just looks wierd. :lmao:

My eldest is 10 and she's determined she's going in a wildcats cheerleading outfit (high school musical) - i look at it this way, she's young only once. I went to disney as a small child and my dad wanted us to have sensible hats not the goofy ones with teeth and he told me 20+ years later it's the one thing he regrets most, making kids try to act mature. (and my father is coming with us this time and has already been looking at stitch ears for the baby LOL)

My 5 year old son wants a wildcats uniform and my 4 year old daughter wants to be tinkerbelle, and belle, and cinderella, and jasmine- you get the picture!

My eldest (who wants to be the cheerleader) didn't want to dress as a princess though so i think it's all down to the individual child.

I may well dress the baby as christopher robin LOL - he'll be 18 months, he can't argue back

Yup!!!

if the teen wants to wear the costume, go for it. Its not like they will see anyone they know! If you are asking about MAKING a teen wear a costume, the answer would be as soon as they say no.

Ideally, people would be able to wear costumes whenever they wanted, but this isn't the case at the Disney parks. Disney is concerned about children mistaking guests for official characters, so guests over the age of 10 are not allowed to wear costumes to the parks. They will be asked to change or turned away.

The only exception to this rule is the hard ticket parties, such as Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween or the Pirate and Princess Party. I went to the P&P Party in August, and there were plenty of adult pirates and wenches around. (I even saw a man in a princess dress and fairy wings, he was a brave soul) I personally dressed up as a pirate and had great interactions with the characters.

Also, at the parties, adult guests in Disney costume are not allowed to take pictures with other guests or sign autographs. I've heard that security will be on your tail if you're even caught talking to people not in your immediate party, so be careful. (though I've heard they're more uptight about this at DLR than WDW)

Is that age 10 and under can wear costumes or they can wear them up to age 10? (because my 10 year old is very tall and looks older than she is so if it's under 10s only we'll have to think of something else but if it's aged 10 and under i'll take something to prove her age as you would never put her at 10 just looking.)

Zokita - please verify facts before posting, you about gave me a heart attack. I just got off the phone with a CM and they said that kids over the age of 10 are absolutely allowed to wear costumes. You might consider removing that part of your post.

I had a hard time with this too. My DD is 12 and I just thought she was too old to be wearing costumes. You should have seen her heartbroken face when DD 6 got a princess costume for Christmas and she didn't! I realized in that moment, who am I to decide? She got a princess costume for her birthday last week and loves it.

My kids don't know that we're going to DisneyWorld, but you gotta know I'm packing those costumes.

I hate to be a party poop, but you could call 20 CMs and get twenty different answers to the same question. So even though 1 CM said yes, it's the CM at the park entrance that makes the decision to let you in with a costume on or not.

Yep.. that why I put that in my last past early on. From everything I have heard on these boards it was always once you were old enoughto need an adult ticket.

Sure.. your 10yo will probably get in just fine... now if a developed teen walked in as Belle that may not fly to well.

Unless an adult looks enough like the actual character to be mistaken for a
"real" characther there is no issue about what you wear. (And what are the chances of that?).

My yougest dd still loves to dress up and even though she does need a 10+ ticket she has dressed as Alice at least once during our last two trips. Never has a CM told her she is not allowed or too old to be wearing a costume.

Adults can also dress up during the MNSSHP and the P&PP. There are a few guidelines regarding "objectionable costumes" ie blood & gore and some types of "toy weapons' though. I will see if I can find the FAQ.
