Too much DVC?

Hi there...

I used to be quite active in the on-line WDW world (including posting here on DIS on occaision), but over the last few years I've been less so. I still go to WDW - I've just not been active on-line. We just got back from WDW (a blog post coming - something else I haven't done in a while) and I've also started listening to the DIS pod casts and I'm totally hooked.

Anyway, on a recent pod cast (and I guess in a thread here) they mentioned that there may be a new DVC built where River Country used to be. The first thing I thought was "geez - MORE WDW property being swallowed up by DVC?" Now don't get me wrong - I love DVC - but with this plus the huge Saratoga Springs property, the old treehouse property and everything else it feels like the only new development at WDW is all DVC. I would actually prefer to see them do something else new, maybe - dare I say it? - a fifth park? Will they run out of room with all the DVC development? Have they already?

They arent going to run out of room soon.. They are supposed to be working on the 'old' part of POP that was never finished and it's going to be called Animation something? So they are doing other stuff other then DVC.

i would love it if they built a 5th park and add some of the att from the other disneyland around the world. but i think they want ppl to travel to the other parks. i'm new to DVC, like 5 days. but i don't see Disney stop selling or building DVC, if it helps bring ppl to Disney they will continue.:surfweb:

Has anyone heard of a DVC portion of Grand Floridian coming? My son frequents this site and several others and has seen that "rumor".

HootDad,

I'd still like another DVC or two on the West Coast ... ;-) VGC just ain't big enough.

Beyond the need for more DVC rooms at DLR, I'd agree. Instead of new DVC properties I'd rather see the expansion of the Buena Vista Trading Company with more "direct exchange" options with other nicely located timeshare properties.

We have an RCI property at Orange Lake CC in Kissimmee. RCI has a contract with DVC to exchange, but I can't exchange since my property is within 30 miles of Disney...BUMMER!!

That's part of the deal where we can't trade out to Orlando area resorts. I'm not surprised that Disney wants their owners to stay onsite and use the rooms on property versus trade out to stay at say Bonnet Creek (which is technically not on, but surrounded by, property).

I don't know where the money from DVC gets funnled to, but if it's driving revenue - I'm supportive. It's putting people in the parks, butts in the restaurants NOT only due to free dining. Hopefully all of that helps in other areas too.

I guess I didn't think about it from the point of view of keeping DVC owners in Disney owned properties...who would want to stay offsite??? :lmao:

Hmmm... not sure I'd agree with that. Thinking in terms of adding a new park, that would take at lease, what, 100 acres or so? I could be wrong but it feels like there is not that much contiguous space available anywhere.

They will stop building DVC properties when people like us stop buying them.

There have been so many new resorts since VB & HHI that I would like to see another beach resort built to at least help absorb the huge number of new members. Maybe something between VB & HHI or maybe something on the Gulf side of Florida.

I heard something awhile back about a new park but part of AK. It had to to with seeing the savanah at night. It would be a seperate entrance fee but still connected to AK. Did they scrap that all together.

I don't know. IMO, it seems like there are too many resorts and not enough park space to accomodate the many on-site and off-site guests. The parks seem to be getting more crowded as the years pass.

I, too, would like to see a new park before any new resorts. Something like California Adventure; it needs to be a park with some more thrill rides. While I love the "old favorites" in the parks, its time for some more variety. Maybe that's the downside to DVC, so many trips sometimes makes things feel repetitive.

Definitely agree!!:thumbsup2 My family LOVES Disney and we have been DVC members since 1993. But as my "kids" get older especially my 2 boys (ages 16 and 22) they are looking for those THRILL rides. So when we all visit now we do a split stay Universal (on site) and WDW. We just returned from California DL and DCA and my 16 year old loved California Screamin. Joan

I would love to see a fifth park. I love DVC but I hope Disney does not oversell it. As DVC expands so do the attractions need to expand that people buy into DVC to see. The parks do appear to be getting more crowded year to year.

true, the four due get packed. but i also think it is also due to the deals Disney offer. not that i'm complaining about the deals, thats how we started going 6 years ago. but i hear the deals given to us in the US is nothing compared to the deals offered to the ppl across the pond in Europe.

I would like to see them maintain the parks they currently have, add more rides to these parks. Still seem like they could and should add more rides to DHS and AK. Then maybe a fifth park, then maybe more DVC. Also agree more DVC for DL.

I think rather than a 5th park, I would like to see them expand AK and DHS. Both of those parks seem unfinished to me with plenty of space for expansion. It would be less expensive than building an entire new park which I can't see given the current economy.

As for DVCs, I love all the variety available, and am happy to see new resorts. If they stop building, the value of DVC starts to decline IMO.

I would assume that they will wait for the economy to turn around before any further expansion. we have been at the parks all week, and with the exception of Toy Story, have walked onto every ride.
