Too much DVC?

Hmmm... not sure I'd agree with that. Thinking in terms of adding a new park, that would take at lease, what, 100 acres or so? I could be wrong but it feels like there is not that much contiguous space available anywhere.

I googled it: "At its peak, the resort occupied approximately 30,000 acres (120 km2) or 47 square miles (120 km²), about the size of San Francisco, or twice the size of Manhattan. Portions of the property since have been sold or de-annexed, including land now occupied by the Disney-built community of Celebration."

I don't see them running out of room anytime soon, but it will happen. Even the land outside of Disney's ownership is being developed quickly. I do see them not having the nice buffer zones between the resorts, parks, shopping, etc. in the future. In most cases one can't tell where the other facilities are when one is looking and listening. They do a great job of hiding the outside world when you are in theirs.

If you look at satellite images (Google updated theirs on May 2nd this year) of the area you can take a snapshot of any of the parks and supper impose them over other "empty" areas and it fits with great buffering all around.

I think rather than a 5th park, I would like to see them expand AK and DHS. Both of those parks seem unfinished to me with plenty of space for expansion. It would be less expensive than building an entire new park which I can't see given the current economy.

As for DVCs, I love all the variety available, and am happy to see new resorts. If they stop building, the value of DVC starts to decline IMO.

I would assume that they will wait for the economy to turn around before any further expansion. we have been at the parks all week, and with the exception of Toy Story, have walked onto every ride.

I have to agree with both of these posts. That when the economy turns around, I hope Disney will improve both AK and DHS. DSH seriously needs more rides in the caliber of the big three, TOT, RNRC and TSM. And AK really needs another land, there just isn't enough there to justify a one day ticket IMHO.

We just got back from DL (stayed at VGC) and was told by the DVC guy at the kiosk that he thinks the next DVC property will be at The Grand Californian. Its gotta be true, or else he wouldn't have said it, right? ;)
I just had to laugh, 'cause these people are so FUS its funny.

I really want them to make improvements at Epcot, DHS, and AK, definitely. That said, I don't think there is too much DVC yet.

It seems like the popular DVC times (October, December) are really hard for DVC members to get into. For example, this October there are days where there is no DVC availability...not even at Saratoga or OKW! That is just crazy! I also feel bad for members who can't book 11 months out and therefore, can't get a reservation. I realize this isn't a problem through out the year but at times it is, so there is obviously a need.

And as I mentioned, I really want them to update the parks but I also realize that's not where they make their money so if building more DVC brings in more money to make the park updates happen, I'm all for it!

No to derail this post, but since you just got back from DL at the VGC, can you tell me about the construction at Calif Adventure? I was just speaking with Member Services about my request for a view and he mentioned that to me. Are there any rides shut down?

I agree. We have been here since the 28th. Without Canadians (like us), Brits and the Brazilians this place would be deserted. Even Dumbo was a 5min wait mid day. At lunch the sit down restaurants are deserted. At LTT on Friday the CMs were out on the sidewalk trying to get people to come inside.

We try to go in Oct, early Nov, early Dec and early spring for just this reason. No crowds to speak of. We don't have to be at the parks early to beat the crowds and we get right onto just about everything. The food is cooked fresh in the CS restaurants and always good. We like the slow times and the cooler days.

I think they could pack the parks with DVCers at these slow times of the year if they offered something extra, free dining like they do for non DVCers in the summer. It doesn't have to be FREE or dining. Just offer something.
A lot of the FL residence go to the World at this time of year because the rest of the world is back home working and studying.

I, too, would like to see a new park before any new resorts. Something like California Adventure; it needs to be a park with some more thrill rides. While I love the "old favorites" in the parks, its time for some more variety. Maybe that's the downside to DVC, so many trips sometimes makes things feel repetitive.
I would like to see them finish the parks they already have, including reopening Pleasure Island.

There's alot of constuction racket going on right in front of VGC, Mulholland Madness, Cars ride is going up, Ariel's ride is underway (behind viewing platform for World of Color). Lots of construction.
Toy Story Mania closed.

i would love it if they built a 5th park and add some of the att from the other disneyland around the world. but i think they want ppl to travel to the other parks. i'm new to DVC, like 5 days. but i don't see Disney stop selling or building DVC, if it helps bring ppl to Disney they will continue.:surfweb:

I'm in if we're voting for another park!

There have been so many new resorts since VB & HHI that I would like to see another beach resort built to at least help absorb the huge number of new members. Maybe something between VB & HHI or maybe something on the Gulf side of Florida.
:thumbsup2
