I'll agree that name calling isn't constructive, but when the counter-argument to typing out full names/words is that it is too many characters (aka too much effort), isn't that kind of the definition of laziness? And while I understand the analogy of going to France and demanding to communicate in English, I don't see that applying here. In the proposed scenario, the person is demanding a complete change in the form of communication. Dae3dae3 merely suggested a slight change to enhance communication, to improve the communication, not change it completely. Again, I'll ask...what is wrong with improving your communication skills? (Unless, of course, all you want to do is communicate how much you know and that you are a member of an elite group, which is what happens when you use a lot of jargon.) Why are so many on here averse to change?
And on what do you base that?

Here's one study: http://www.nngroup.com/articles/participation-inequality/ There's many more if you want to do a google search. It's something that has been widely known for years.

If you are going to backhandedly reference me, at Lear do so correctly. I didn't criticize you for not responding at all. I took note and commented on that you were willing to come back and respond to rudeness, while you have ignored sincere responses and then came back and claimed that the responses you are getting are all rude. They are not, in fact, all rude. Those are just the ones you are choosing to respond to.
One good thing to come from this thread is that there seems to be some legitimate support for a whole scale ban on the annoying term "ressie" as it is neither an acronym OR an initialism and just sounds like something a toddler says! Now time for me to go double check my resvs!

It makes me LOL that this thread is still alive. Yesterday it annoyed me enough that someone is arrogant enough to think they should tell people how to communicate even though the specifics they were complaining about were not rude, offensive or a violation of the TOU, that I considered just staying away from the whole site. Today? Instead it just makes me want to use even more abbreviations and tell those refusing to learn or use them that they are the ones being lazy. And I am not someone who even uses tons and tons of abbreviations normally.
LOL - I'll take "ressie" over "brekkie" any time. That one I hate!! But I don't attack the poster, I just go "ew" and move on.
I'm sorry if this is out of line but the acronyms are getting out of control on this forum. Half the time I can't figure out what the poster is trying to say.
Is it really that hard to just type the word? At least use the word once and then abbreviate it so people that don't live on this board 365 days a year know what you are talking about. I've been building up to this post for a while so please don't think any one person's post is why I am writing this.
