Too Many Acronymns!

People in the restaurant business say "ressie". I mentioned that earlier in this thread. It's not to be cutesy, it's how I think it, from years of people in the multiple restaurants I worked at, saying it. To me, it's just as legit as resv. or resvs. It's much harder to say "how many resvs are booked for tonight!" than, "how many ressies..."

:rotfl:

How would you plan to share this to new way of posting to every poster on multiple online communities (infrequent posters or multiple board posters) and the context which you prefer to use it? Good luck spreading that message to all of the other board members and changing years of online community speak. While you are at it, try to get teens to quit the text talk too:laughing:

Someone could easily start their own new Disney Online community and make that a rule. Of course then you would have cross over posters who may not realize and still use them. Good luck.

You have gotten a lot of good posts, explaining. Personal attacks? Shoot, this is nice and calm and people are tring to really express why they disagree. Disagreeing is not an attack. You should see the debate on my other boards about ERF, FF/BF and SAH/WM LOL.
Is it sad that I know exactly what this says? :goodvibes

I was joking (thus the wink), though I do find the term to be "cutsie" and annoying, but that's on me and a rediculous idiosyncrsy on my part. But, in the name of self-centeredness, I still call for a whole scale change/ban on this term. :rotfl:

Haha I cringe when I see ressie because it takes me back to my days of being a waiter and I can instantly recall what my clothes smelled like when I came home.

I really don't understand this thread. If you don't like the way the forum runs, then don't participate. Access to disboards is not a constitutional right. You are joining an established community. No one owes anyone anything on this board. If you are not enjoying the experience or finding it helpful then move on. No big deal.

With the vast majority of posters understanding what is written, I have to assume that the forums are fine the way they are. Yes, there have been times that I have had to stop and really try to figure out what something means...not often, but when a small group comes up with their own 'shorthand' I have to five it some thought. Obviously that hasn't stopped my being here!
These forums work very well, the way they are. Most people know what is being said. If they can't figure something out, they are free to ask....I certainly hope that they would get their question answered in a friendly manner.
Now....don't get me started on some 'cutesy' shortenings.....use ADR instead of 'ressies', absolutely hate 'brekkie' and 'prolly'.but that's just me. You want to use them, go for it. I don't have to like them. Am I going to get in a twist over them? Hardly. Not worth it.

Sorry couldn't resist

In the light of this thread.. I'll ask about something I don't know... what is HDDR?

Also, I don't mind Ressie.. I *hate* brekky. That annoys the snot out of me as being WAY too cute. My sister uses it all the time and I cringe.

I've been watching this thread for a while now, and I find it truly fascinating. Confession: I agree with dae3dae3's initial point. There are some days when I get annoyed when I encounter an initialization or two for which I have to stop and figure out. But there are some days when I enjoy the challenge. So I'm on the fence about that issue. But what I find really fascinating is the reactions of some of the folks on here. Some are not very friendly and are downright antagonistic towards dae3dae3. I find these responses very clique-y. "We've been on here for years. That's the way we do it. Assimilate or leave." Ironically, that's not very Disney, in my opinion. If I've understood correctly, dae3dae3 is a professional communicator, and was offering her professional opinion (although unsolicited) to help you all be better communicators. And am I correct to assume that you are all on here to communicate and share? If so, what is wrong with a little constructive criticism?

But as several people have pointed out, it's like going to France and asking people there to speak less French. And it doesn't help when she calls people who use acronyms (or initialisms) lazy.

Hey, we're all allowed our idiosyncrasies!! Unfortunately mine is the DH thing...so I'm not gaining any traction on the banning of it!! ;)

When you start a thread calling every poster lazy, clearly the antagonism was initiated in post #1.

I was trying to let the thread die by not responding but now I've been criticized for not responding so here we go again. :cool1: :moped:

I take contention with the first part of your sentence. On what do you base that? Even assuming it is true, what about all the people that don't make accounts and post? They are the majority of readers of this forum.

I'll agree that name calling isn't constructive, but when the counter-argument to typing out full names/words is that it is too many characters (aka too much effort), isn't that kind of the definition of laziness? And while I understand the analogy of going to France and demanding to communicate in English, I don't see that applying here. In the proposed scenario, the person is demanding a complete change in the form of communication. Dae3dae3 merely suggested a slight change to enhance communication, to improve the communication, not change it completely. Again, I'll ask...what is wrong with improving your communication skills? (Unless, of course, all you want to do is communicate how much you know and that you are a member of an elite group, which is what happens when you use a lot of jargon.) Why are so many on here averse to change?

I'm sorry, BuzzinDownToDisney, I've reread the initial post, and I fail to find where she calls people lazy. It might be implied, or inferred by you, but I don't actually see her calling anyone lazy.
