Hi all! Our trip begins on 9/16. Is it too late to upgrade my DD (5) to an adult to take advantage of the adult meals? We will be using the the free dining plan.

Thanks!

It is not too late. Dining plans just have to be finalized 72 hours prior to check in. Typically any changes made within 45 days are subject to a $50 change fee. They typically wave that fee if your overall package price is increasing, though, but since it is increasing by such a small amount, they may charge it. Still worth it, though! :goodvibes

I believe you will also have to upgrade his park ticket to an adult one as well - and the increase will be due when you call. :)

We also have MNSSHP tickets, will they require me to upgrade those to adult tickets? I've already received our tickets for that so I'm not sure if that will matter.

When we upgraded our DD a couple of years ago, they did not require us to upgrade her to an adult for pirates and pals. Since you already have the MNSSHP tickets, and the actual age is 5, it should be fine. You will just need to upgrade the ticket associated with the dining package.

Thanks! I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they can do for me. Our TS meals are Akershus (dinner), Hollywood and Vine (breakfast), Cape May Cafe (dinner), Sanaa (dinner), and Ohana (breakfast); would it really be worth it to do the adult upgrade if they charge the $50 change fee?

One other question: for the buffet restaurants, does a child's credit only allow them to eat the things listed on the child portion of the menu? The most up to date version of the Cape May Cafe menu only has chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, green beans, and one other item listed on it. That seems a little bit ridiculous.

I'm sorry, I'm not very familiar with the TS meals (we are QS people), but I believe at a buffet, they can eat anything they want. The ticket difference is very small. When we did it two years ago, it was $19.17 for a 9 day ticket. Hopefully someone will come along and help you with more details on the meals you have selected.

Just upgraded a 9 year old to 10 earlier today so she won't be limited to chicken nuggets, cheeseburgers, and uncrustables all week when we go.

;)

If it helps, our trip starts a week after yours, we have free dining, and the only fee I was charged was $20.24 for the duration of our stay (thanks to someone on these boards for posting that little tidbit in the upgrade sticky). The CM I spoke with told me that since I already had free dining, I was only being charged the difference between child and adult park tickets for the length of our stay.

I did not ask about MNSSHP tickets. I'm operating on the assumption they don't need to be changed as they're separate tickets and not directly linked with our package.

As for the buffets such as Cape May, on a previous visit (with a then 4 year old), the child's credit was not limiting at all. She got to eat whatever she wanted from the children's selections and the adults.

Hope this helps.

Kids can eat anything on the buffet - they are not limited to the "kids' picks." The only TS meal that is not a buffet is Sanaa. I think you'll be fine with keeping your 5-yr-old a child -- the QS kids' meal portions should be adequate, and if not, supplement with the snack credit for the day or share your own meal. If you wind up buying a few items OOP, you should still come out cheaper than paying the change fee, plus you'll have to pay more in gratuities (cost of the adult buffet vs the child buffet will increase the tip).

I would just leave your package as-is. You don't need to upgrade your 5-yr-old to an adult.

Only at Sanaa and maybe Akershus (regarding the entrees there, not the cold buffet). At all the other restaurants you have chosen, children and adults eat the same food. However, your child will also get upgraded CS meals.
