Because both kids are in school now, we have to take our WDW vacation in the summer and we choose the last week of August through Labor Day. There are severe penalties at our children's schools for taking vacation during the school year -- the days out count towards unexcused absences, regardless of whether your child writes a trip report and catches up on homework, and if they exceed 7, could require repeating the year!!
But, I digress.
Yes August is hot and humid but very manageable. Even the bathrooms are air-conditioned so you can always find relief. Water is the only beverage we drink and have found we do well by drinking every 15 minutes or so. We had severe but brief T-storms in the afternoon, but no washouts. The mornings were all glorious. We prefer taking an afternoon break at the pool before heading to another park in the evening. We do take advantage of EMH and find it works beautifully as long as you are prepared to leave the park by 11 a.m. Also use fastpass to avoid waiting in long, hot lines. For the first time, I bought all of us Teva sandals and it makes a huge difference to have cooler feet. Also, buy and wear a really good hat -- not a fashionable one but a real desert-camo type floppy hat.
On our last trip, we took two friends who do not fare well in the heat, but by taking our advice, they did fine and even impressed themselves. Sitting here now in Boston with the cold blustery winds whipping outside my window, the heat of August at WDW is a happy memory for me and one I savor throughout our miserable winters.
