Too Cold in Orlando

I too, am so bummed about the cold snap. There' s a cold snap here too! Last week in the 60 and 70's. This week 30 and 40's. I was hoping to get away from it, rather than bring it with me!!!

See you there, we too, leave on Sat.

Yeah, I too would rather be in DisneyWorld. Right now it is 37 here with a wind chill of 27 and it is supposed to snow over the weekend! Tomorrow night at a hotel near the airport and early Saturday on a plane. We are staying at ASMo and right now I am the only one in our group who knows where we are going! I am taking my daughter, sister-in-law and niece for Christmas. We took dd a year and a half ago but the others have never been so it will be fun. It is driving the SiL nuts because she knows we are going somewhere but not where and the kids don't even know we are going anywhere yet and won't until we head to the motel tomorrow night! I am so excited I don't know if I can make it through another day and a half of work! Yipppeeee!!

We're not that much farther north than you - and our kids ALWAYS go swimming. We've been a couple of times in January and we have a blast in the pools. They are heated, so it's just the walk to and from that's nippy.

DD13 gets a strange pleasure from watching the horrified looks on people's faces when she's sitting on Main Street eating ice cream and other people are bundled up like they are ready to go visit the north pole. :earboy2:

We are leaving tomorrow for Orlando. I have been watching the weather and it is not very promising. The high on Monday is only going to be 47. I am hoping it will start warming up by Wednesday. I need some ideas for things to do in Orlando when it is too cold to go to the parks. We are staying outside the park and we are driving down, so anything within a hour or two driving distance would be ok. Its one thing having to pack jeans and sweatshirts for a trip to Florida, but mittens are a different thing. I am thinking swimsuits can just stay home.
 :cool1:

Well even if the temp is lower I don't think it would be too cold to go to the parks. Our family took a trip Thanksgiving 2000 and it turned oddly cold at the beginning of the week. We were not expecting that type of weather and we ended up buying sweatshirts, jackets and a blanket for our daughter who was 3 at the time. The parks were great for touring though. We went to Epcot that day, and there were not many people there at all. My daughter got a lot of one on one time with characters that came out and by the CMs. I think a lot of people chose not to do Epcot because it is so open and there is a lot walking. Late afternoon we scooted over to MGM, walked right into the Brown Derby without a reservation and ate a great meal. We then went to Fantasmic. We snuggled under the blanket and drank hot chocolate with a really great view.

Sure I'd rather have the weather like we had when we were there( in the 80's) but it's in the 30's here, so 47 would feel pretty good! I'm sure you'll have a good trip anyway!

I hear ya. We leave tomorrow and the plan was to go to Fantasmic Monday night. Now, I'm rethinking that plan as 50 during the day is one thing but 30s at night is a no thank you for me. Noone's fault of course (Geoff, lol) but I am rather annoyed that Florida is going to be that cold. We've only had one night in the 30's here in Maryland so far this winter and now I'm getting it in Florida? Geeez! Hubby wants to skip Fantasmic and go to ESPN for Monday night football anyway so he's tickled pink. I predict huge crowds in there (Pats vs Dolphins)! Sure hope it hits 70 at least once before we return home.

We have visted WDW in Dec several times and always bring gloves and hats. Beleive me, the parks are still wonderful, even if it is chilly. I'n sure it won't stay in the 40's all week! Bring some warm clothes and have fun!

A cold weather day at Disney is better than a cold weather day at home.

I'm pretty happy about it, actually. I think it'll cut down on crowds, I hate being too hot, and I didn't know how I was going to work in pool time for ds, so this fixes that!

The Orlando Science Center is a great alternative when the weather is not cooperating. We went there one day when it was raining cats and dogs, and the kids really loved it.

The Science Center sounds like a good idea. I am all packed and ready to load the car. We are leaving in about 6 hours. I have packed plenty of warm clothes, and we will head to the parks dressed in layers, ready for all kinds of weather.

The cold is what keeps me from ever going in the winter. We go early October at the lastest and even that can get chilly. I am dealing with temps in the 30s and 40s here at home right now so if I go to WDW I want HOT weather! I would not want to walk around the parks in parkas and mittens. I can freeze at home! LOL! I hope it warms up for you!

I am soooo jealous! Have a great trip!

Kungaloosh!
Morticia.

We're leaving for WDW at 4 this afternoon. 47 on Monday sounds alot better than the high of 19 that is forecast for here!

My husband and I went to "one of those other Central Florida parks" for our honeymoon 12/14/97. It was sooooo cold we and didn't check the weather (who knew?). We had to go buy sweatshirts when we got there. I think the cold weather kept people away and it was not crowded.

But guess what! I am going to MK this weekend with my adorable 6 year old daughter and wearing the bright red Winnie the Pooh sweatshirt I bought in 1997.

Bring your swimsuits anyway...the cold front can retreat suddenly and there you'll be with a swimmable day with no swimsuits. I think everyone should bring clothing suitable for a sunny cool or cold day in their home town when they go to WDW between 11/15 and the Superbowl...after all you have to return there eventually and it'll give you something to wear to and from the trip to Dis. And otherwise I'd pack long pants and long lightweight shirts...you might be a little hot during the day time but you'll be thankful once night falls.

We went in December 2000 and it was a little cool. All the native Floridians were talking about how cold it was and we thought it wasn't so bad! The weather at home was in the 20's and 30's w/ snow, so the 50's were welcome to us. We did have to pack extra clothing to cover both cool and warm temps, but that was the only downside.

Yep, it is actually going to feel like Christmas this year. Bring layers, it may warm up during the day, but you will need those coats, gloves and hats for the nighttime.

Remember... Cold is a state of mind... you are in WALT DISNEY WORLD!!!! :cool1:

We are at WDW right now and have been here all week.

we've seen temps from the low 70s down to 50. We've had a great time everyday- just stayed out of the pool a couple days.

One great thing- we've seen nearly ZERO crowd. Hardly used the fastpasses all week:
Safari: 15 minute wait
Mission Space- walked on
Space mountain- 1o minutes
Pirates- walked on
Dumbo- kids could get off the rise, wait one or two cycles- and be back on.
Tower of Terror- 10-15 minutes

Every once in a while (near noontime) we saw some waits close to 30 minutes- but we just came back later or fastpassed...

Of course, everyone has different reasons for coming to Disney. Ours was to see characters, shows and ride the rides.....not sit by the pool (we can do that back home!).

We did skip the waterparks, because:
1. They have those closer to home if we REALLY want to ride water rides
2. And, planning a trip in December, we kinda assumed water parks wouldnt be the focus.

Pack a couple extra sweatshirts, take a blanket for fireworks, pack some gloves/mittens for the early entry mornings, and have fun!
