We just heard on the radio here in Tampa that Tony Dungy's (the former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) 18 year old son committed suicide. This is such heartbreaking news just a few days before Christmas....Tony Dungy is such a well loved public figure in Tampa, his family still lives here even though he went on to coach the Colts. I don't know any details yet, they have not been released.

I just read another thread on these boards a few days ago about a 15 year old girl who committed suicide...this is so heartbreaking that teens think this is a way out of their troubles. :guilty:

Here is a link to a photo of his family: http://www.allprodad.com/dungy.asp

Oh My! This hasn't made the Indy news yet! How horrible!

How awful. He worked here in MN at the Vikings for a while, too, and I have always had respect/admiration for him. My heart goes out to them....

From the WFLA website:

Former Bucs Coach's Son Dies

The 18-year-old son of Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy has been found dead at the Campus Lodge apartments in Lutz.Fire rescue and deputies went there because of a call from his roommates and girl friend. A death investigation is underway--but the sheriff's office says there's a high probability that the death of James Dungy was a suicide.

How tragic. :guilty: I recall seeing one of his younger sons on the sideline at one of Indy's games earlier this year.

This is so sad :sad1:

Tony Dungy is such a great guy! He has many ties to Pittsburgh from his playing and coaching days here.

Losing a child is such a heartbreaking event no matter what the circumstance. My thoughts and prayers will be with him and his family at this difficult time.

OMG! And I just saw them both last night at my store. I waited on them. :(

So very sad. We have experienced this in our community here also, so sad. My good wishes are with his family, rest his troubled soul.

oh how awful. I just don't know what to say other than send prayer to the family.

Coach Dungy's son dies in Florida

Star report
The 18-year-old son of Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy died in Florida, authorities said today.

His girlfriend found James A. Dungy, 18, dead in a Tampa-area apartment. He was pronounced dead at University Community Hospital, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

The first deputy to arrive performed CPR and he was taken to a local hospital, where James Dungy was pronounced dead.

The cause of death remains under investigation and an autopsy is pending by the Hillsborough County Medical Examiners Office.

Tony Dungy has left the Colts and is in Tampa. Indianapolis plays at Seattle this Saturday, ESPN.com reported.

This story will be updated.

That is so awful, especially this time of year! My heart goes out to his family!

So very sad...have they determined that it was most certainly suicide? I just saw it on the news and they said the cause was unknown at this point but the investigation was underway...

My heart goes out to the Dungy family during what will be a tough holiday season. :(

Very sad, some of the local stations are not mentioning suicide and some are. The poor family, I feel bad for them. Coach Dungy still has ALOT of people in this area that love him even though he is no longer with the Bucs.

:sad1: So incredibly tragic. I heard this on the radio a few minutes ago and couldn't believe it. Prayers for the Dungy family.

Oh no, that is horrible. The radio station I listen to just reported this from Breaking News.

I remember when he (when he was about 8 or 9) and his little brother would run out on the field to pick up the kicking tees at Bucs games. They were so cute on the sidelines because they were so little compared to the players.

My prayers go out to the Dungy family.

Apparently it is not yet certain. It looks like that report was taken from the comments of a sheriff's deputy at the scene. For the Dungys' sake, I really hope it was not.
