I'm psyched.

what do you think will be this year's best musical?

my choice?

here are some lyrics from the show:

GALINDA
(spoken) Elphie - now that we're friends, I've decided to
make you my new project.

ELPHABA
(spoken) You really don't have to do that

GALINDA
(spoken) I know. That's what makes me so nice!
(sung) Whenever I see someone
Less fortunate than I
(And let's face it - who isn't
Less fortunate than I?)
My tender heart
Tends to start to bleed
And when someone needs a makeover
I simply have to take over
I know I know exactly what they need
And even in your case
Tho' it's the toughest case I've yet to face
Don't worry - I'm determined to succeed
Follow my lead
And yes, indeed
You will be:

Popular!
You're gonna be popular!
I'll teach you the proper ploys
When you talk to boys
Little ways to flirt and flounce
I'll show you what shoes to wear
How to fix your hair
Everything that really counts

To be popular
I'll help you be popular!
You'll hang with the right cohorts
You'll be good at sports
Know the slang you've got to know
So let's start
'Cause you've got an awfully long way to go:

Don't be offended by my frank analysis
Think of it as personality dialysis
Now that I've chosen to be come a pal, a
Sister and adviser
There's nobody wiser
Not when it comes to popular -
I know about popular
And with an assist from me
To be who you'll bee
Instead of dreary who-you-were: are:
There's nothing that can stop you
From becoming popu-
Ler: lar:

La la la la
We're gonna make
You popular

When I see depressing creatures
With unprepossessing features
I remind them on their own behalf
To think of
Celebrated heads of state or
Specially great communicators
Did they have brains or knowledge?
Don't make me laugh!

They were popular! Please -
It's all about popular!
It's not about aptitude
It's the way you're viewed
So it's very shrewd to be
Very very popular
Like me!

(spoken) Why, Miss Elphaba, look at you. You're beautiful.

ELPHABA(spoken) I - I have to go:

GALINDA
(spoken) You're welcome!
(sung) And though you protest
Your disinterest
I know clandestinely
You're gonna grin and bear it
Your new found popularity
La la la la
You'll be popular -
Just not as quite as popular
As me!

I'm looking forward to the Tony's too. I'm thinking Wicked will win best new musical, and I think Idina Menzel will get best actress in a musical--she was incredible.

I love "Defying Gravity" (which they are planning on performing on Sunday night), and "As Long As You're Mine."

I'll be rooting for "Fiddler" for best revival.

the performances:

Assassins _ Nominees Michael Cerveris, Denis O’Hare and company will perform “Everybody’s Got the Right”
Avenue Q _ Nominees John Tartaglia, Stephanie D’Abruzzo and company will entertain with “It Sucks to Be Me”
The Boy From Oz _ Nominee Hugh Jackman will prove (as Peter Allen) that he is “Not the Boy Next Door”
Caroline, or Change _ Nominee Tonya Pinkins will sing “Lot’s Wife”
Fiddler on the Roof _ Nominee Alfred Molina will lead the company in “Tradition”
Wicked _ Nominees Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth will perform the show’s act-one finale, “Defying Gravity”
Wonderful Town _ Nominee Donna Murphy will lead the company in the production number “Swing.”

Am looking forward to watching as Hugh Jackman is hosting. Would have loved to have seen "The Boy from Oz.":(

I am SO hoping both the Show and Idina win. The number they are performing, " Defying Gravity" is one of the best moments in the show and one that really highlights Idina's amazing talent.

I can't wait for Sunday!

I will be attending the awards once again this year. It was a better year for Broadway this year. Loved Fiddler, Loved Wicked, Boy From Oz--just ok for me. Always seem to get these great seats too-----this year again 19 rows back, center orchestra. So much goes on prior to the televised awards that most folks don't see. The best was the year Eileen Stritch won a special Tony---she was such a hoot, and boy is she what you call a 'real broad'. The gala after is always great. Always get these goodie bags with various items. And yes there are the celebs---many long time theater folk, many who aren't even in shows--Jerry Orbach, Michelle Lee, Bernadette Peters,Lauren Bacall etc. There have been a few sad things--like seeing Chrisopher Reeves for the first time, talking with Gregory Hines one year, only to see him gone the next. It is a wonderful night, and for me a true affirmation that the art of the acting and live performance is still alive. This is where every actor should begin their training and career---on the New York stage---not some movie set or soundstage.

I went to the Tonys a few years ago, and it sure is a whole heck of a lot of fun. It's really thrilling to be there. Have a great time, Sandramaac!

You know next year, if I have an extra ticket, I will let you know. Besides knowing how much you love the theater, it would be kinda neat to meet you after these years on the boards. So I will keep you in mind OK!!

This year is extra special for me to go--the past few years a friend in the biz got my tickets--this year however I was able to secure my own--at 42 final got my equity card

congrats, sandra! that's wonderful!

my sisters went to the awards a few years ago, at Radio city. bought their tickets, sat waaaaay in the back...but had a wonderful night.
