Yes, it really is delicious. I order mine a bit differently than most, however. I do not like it deep-fried as it is too greasy for me. If it were smaller I'd be fine with the frying but it is quite large. Instead, I order mine grilled. It's still just as good but not quite as heavy.

Definitely give it a try. Oh, and if you'd rather not spend the money on a table-service breakfast you can get the Tonga Toast at the quick serve location at the Poly...Captain Cook's.

We are considering trying it in December.

When you order it, do you just ask them to grill it instead of fry it? :) That would be more up my alley. I would not want it deep friend if I could try it any other way.

tonga toast.....drooling......

Try it! It's our fav WDW breakfast food. I've personally never met someone who doesn't like it.

I think it's over hyped. Very greasy and heavy, and I felt ill after eating it. The good news for Tonga Toast Fans - We won't be fighting for reservations to go back. :goodvibes

Is the Tonga Toas t the same as the banana stuffed that they would have at Boatwrights when they did breakfast? I don;t remember the stuffed toast at boatwrights being greasy

It is typically a must do when I'm at WDW, fried and all :woohoo: You will not be disappointed! Enjoy.

I found it too greasy personally, as did my DH. Now the macadamia nut pancakes in Kona are a whoooooole different matter! To die for!

I'm a minority, I guess. It was ok, but not great. Not my cup o' tea (or press pot coffee, as it were). I LOVE French toast - it is hands down my favorite breakfast item. Luv it, luv it, luv it! BUT - Tonga Toast is not really French toast, tastes nothing like French toast, and has about as much to do with French toast as a hamburger does with a chicken sandwich. Just because they are shaped the same and both include bread does not make them all that similar in the end. The texture is different, the flavor is different, etc. I thought the cinnamon sugar was too strong and crunchy and not much flavor to the bread portion in comparison to the sugar and banana.

On future visits I will order the regular, normal French toast (which was great) and forget the Tonga toast altogether. If you are a French toast purist, be warned!

I guess I am a grease freak, I didn't think it was that greasy and will be going for more on Oct. 26 and also maybe also later in the week. We get ours at Capt'n Cooks at Poly, you can get it for a CS, you get bacon and 2 drinks. It is big so if you don't eat much for breakfast the you could probably split it. The way I always make french toast at home is to fry it in oil. I also really love the puffy French Toast at the Crystal Palace that is probably greasy also cause it is great and will also be going there on Oct. also.
I can't wait to get sick on Tonga French toast this Oct. :hippie::cool1:

O the Boatwights French toast was similar but it came with strawberry jelly on top.

I think you should try it. I've had it a few times but I'm not a big fan of sweets for breakfast(unfortunately my only healthy attribute).

It's very good, and I think it IS greasy & heavy. But so is fried chicken and I love that(see, there's my unhealthy side coming to the surface).

As much as everyone talks about it here I think you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. Be sure to take a bite before you pour a bunch of syrup on it.:earsboy:

I love, love, love the Tonga Toast. I don't usually love anything fried or too sweet, but this is a totally different story. I don't eat pancakes or french toast either, so it is odd that I love this stuff! My husband and I eat most of our breakfasts at Kona during our trips. I don't use the syrup, just a bit of the strawberry glaze. It is wonderful... My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Try it once and decide for yourself!

Yup! I simply say "I'd like it grilled instead of deep fried please." and it's never been a problem. I will say that, having had both, the cinnamon sugar doesn't stick to the grilled version quite as well, but there's always been more than enough.

After going there three times for it I'm done. I didn't enjoy it as much as I did the first two times. It's good don't get me wrong but I got my full of it.
I would definately recomend going and getting it once.

I would say it is more like a donut (and a GINORMOUS donut at that!!) rather than traditional french toast. I like it better without the banana in the middle -you can order it that way.

I think it would be a good one to share - maybe have someone else order eggs, etc. and then split each. I like it, but it's too much of a good thing, if that's possible!!

I found it too sweet and greasy. Not going near it again.

I remember having it when I was 11 (when the Kona cafe wasn't the Kona cafe and you could eat breakfast with Mickey and Minnie at the Poly) and thought it was ok. I had wished it was more banana-y and not so big. Since it's been 16 years since I've eaten it (and may not even be the same recipe now) I didn't feel qualified to vote :). But I find with most food items so dearly loved by us on the DIS that most of the time they're pretty overrated (not that they're not good but not worth all of the raving about either).

I agree, the Tonga Toast is very greasy and very sweet. Honestly, I wouldn't even get it for dessert, let alone breakfast.

But the Macadamia Nut Pancakes are incredible.
