Tonga Tonga Tonga

I can't vote because inspite of staying at Poly for over a week this spring we never managed to try it :headache: and I'm still kicking myself.

It was one of the grossest things I've eaten - deep fried fat and sugar. Blech. :crazy2:

If you like sugary sweet stuff then you will love it. If you don't - you won't! My mom doesn't like sweet stuff and thought it was gross. But, I LOVED IT!

Along with Dole Whips, Tonga Toast is my favorite food in all of WDW. It is very sweet and greasy, but SOOOOO good if you like that kind of stuff. Just think of it as a donut coated in cinnamon sugar and stuffed with banana.

I feel the need to preface by saying that no food item in WDW lives up to THAT much hype - not Tonga Toast (deep fried greasy donut like toast), not Dole Whip (Seriously -it's just pineapple soft serve), not Mickey Bars (can get a dove ice cream bar at my grocery store), not even Le Cellier (average at best steak but a hard to get ressie because of restaurant size). That said, the Tonga Toast is really good and really unique, and I think it is the unique part that drives up the wow factor here, much like the uniqueness is the driving force for the others I listed. I would definitely give it a try but as the others have said, this is in no way, shape, or form a french toast purist breakfast or anything remotely resembling healthy. It is a great vacation indulgence, however, and I hope you like it!

I have discovered that the dole whips at Disneyland are actually good. But I don't like the ones at WDW.

Disneyland apparently uses actual pineapple soft serve and WDW's has a dairy base.

I was so excited to try this when i went but was slightly underwhelmed. Yes, it's good and yummy. But too sweet, too heavy, too... I don't know how to describe it? I ate maybe a quarter of it and then ended up eating off my dad and step mom's plates because I was hungry but wanted no more Tonga Toast. Dad and StepMom took bites of it and said the same thing. they would never be able to stomach a whole order.

Also, I asked to have it grilled instead of fried and the waiter looked at me like I had five heads and politely told me that it can not be grilled and it must be fried. i should have put up a bigger fight but he sounded convincing even though I've read here on the DIS a million times about getting it grilled :( It might have been better that way?

Anyone who finds the Tonga Toast too greasy or too sweet should definitely try it grilled. It is not at all greasy and far less sweet as the sugar does not stick quite as well. I can't eat the regular version but love it grilled!

booo! now I feel jipped! I want to try it when we go again but I'm worried I won't like it...again! :(

Way over-hyped. The sweetest, heaviest breakfast item I've ever seen. My sister & I finished maybe 1/4 of it and it was just too much. Granted, I had bacon as a chaser, so maybe I just wasn't hungry enough! :rolleyes1 Maybe without the banana and only one slice of bread, but then you might as well eat a donut. It's not that the taste was bad, it was just huge and overwhelming, if one can be overwhelmed by a breakfast item.

It really is nothing like french toast, so if you are expecting that, you'll be disappointed.

That's the best description I've read yet - and I love the bit about the "bacon chaser":lmao:
