hello everyone-

My family and I are heading back to Disney this December (my favorite time to go) and we keep hearing about Tonga Toast and want to try it. I've heard you can get it at a couple places at the Polynesian or at Animal Kingdom. Where is the best place and is this something you would need a reservation for??

From pictures I've seen it looks better at the POlynesian, and we are staying at Boardwalk this time, so I'm not sure if we are going to be able to make it out there during breakfast hours-which leads me to another question- Is this only served during breakfast hours??

Thanks!

Tonga Toast is available at the Kona Café in the Polynesian....I have never seen it available at any other resort, but I could be mistaken on that....you can only get it at breakfast time, up to 11am I think....the menu changes after that....

It is also at Capn' Cooks at the Poly, which is a counter service. The only real difference is the price, and the Kona serves a strawberry compote with it. We make it over at least once a trip, regardless of where we stay. We often make rope drop at MK, ride for an hour or so, then take the monorail over to Poly for a quick breakfast at Capn Cooks!:thumbsup2

I have not seen or heard of Tonga Toast at AK, so I would double-check that before heading over there with a hope of finding it.

We had a slab at Capt. Cook's this weekend, and although I had always heard it was much cheaper than at Kona Cafe, I was shocked that it was only $5.19 (vs. $12.99 at Kona). As noted, it comes without the strawberry compote (envision a strawberry smoothie) that you get at Kona, and it also comes without any meat (although you can order it on the side), so it makes sense that it would be cheaper, but it's still a bargain...definitely worth my time getting up a little earlier on MK or taking a mid-morning break from MK and taking the monorail over there for a quick breakfast.

If I have a little time to spare, I'd stick with Kona, as I love the strawberry sauce and will typically add some sort of breakfast meat to it regardless of where I am...so I guess I'm willing to spend an extra couple of bucks to have a waiter/waitress and a more relaxed environment. But just as importantly, if at Kona, I would hope to convince someone else in my family to get some of the other things on the Kona menu like the Samoan (eggs benedict with pulled pork) and the pineapple-macadamia nut pancakes so that I can conveniently enjoy those things, too...not to mention the pressed pot of coffee that far exceeds anything being put out as coffee anywhere else on property (including Starbucks). The other breakfast options at Capt. Cook's are just the usual basics.

We have made late breakfast reservations (10:45- 11:00) on our last two trips, just to go to Kona and have the Tonga Toast. And all I have to say is mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! Love it:)

The Poly is the only place the real Tonga Toast is available.. I would opt for Kona and split the Tonga and the Pineapple Macadamia Nut Pancakes with someone.. :)

The Rainforest Cafe at AK has 'tonga toast' for breakfast there but it is really french toast with strawberries and bananas sliced on it..

We've had the Tonga Toast at Kona. It was a huge portion and extremely sweet so something that I would recommend sharing with others. It comes with a strawberry compote that is not included in the Captain Cook version.

At AK, Rainforest Cafe has a Tonga Toast breakfast entree. I haven't had it, but from picture it is very different from the Poly version. Here's a Disney Food blog review of RFC with a photo of their version towards the end of the article:

I agree that Tonga Toast is best shared, and that Kona would be your best chance for that. TT is delicious, but it's very rich, and very sweet. Eating the whole thing is sorta like eating a dozen donuts: The first two or three are great. ;)

Those macadamia pancakes are good too, but I'd still throw in an order of some eggs benedict or ham or something NOT sweet to balance things out. :earsboy:

so now my question is "do we need to have a reservation at either of the poly restaraunts?" and we are staying at Boardwalk, but are thinking we will go to Poly for breakfast on the morning we are leaving and we need to go really early, how early do the buses start taking people around? The magical express leaves at 9:00 AM on our last day for the airport and we want to go to the poly as early as possible and there isn't any extra morning magic hours at Magic Kingdom, would we have to take a cab or how early do the buses operate?

Cab fare from BWV to the Poly is around $10. We usually just take a cab over on Tonga Toast day. (Then we are more leisurely in getting back and just take the MK bus.)
