Tonga Toast?

You can get it at Capt Cooks CS at the Poly...much cheaper too

not really what you were asking for but an FYI...

Disney Tonga Toast
2 or 4 slices sourdough bread cut 1 inch thick
1 banana
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Oil for frying
Whipped butter if desired
Maple syrup if desired
Depending on the size of the bread slices, cut a 1 inch pocket in one side
of the bread slice. Cut banana in half crosswise, then split each piece
lengthwise. Remove peel and stuff two pieces in each pocket, again depending
on size. Set aside. Mix sugar and cinnamon. Set aside. Mix egg, milk, and
vanilla until well blended. Heat about 4 inches of oil in a pan to 350
degrees F. Dip stuffed bread into egg mixture, allowing it to soak in for a
few minutes. Fry in hot oil until lightly brown, turning to brown both sides.
Drain on paper towels on cake rack. Sprinkle with cinnamon−sugar and serve
at once.

Just the Poly. The Tonga Toast at Captain Cook's is the same as the one at Kona. Easier because it's a CS so you don't have to book a TS if you really just want that.

The version at Kona Cafe costs more but it also is served with a strawberry compote and a choice of ham, bacon or sausage. The Captain Cook's version is served with regular syrup.

Too sweet for me too. Now the Big Kahuna breakfast...yum

The Cap'n Cooks version is just slapped on a paper plate, so it doesn't 'look' as nice as ordering it from Kona, but it's the same thing, and cheaper.

Try the Kona Cafe - I love it !

Also get the pressed Kona coffee !

:cool1:

FYI - I was told by a Kona server that Tonga Toast is 3,000 calories (without the syrup)...a total sugar shock!

:scared1:  :scared:

That's just about the equivalent of gaining 1 lb!!!

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :ssst:

Don't you know there's no such thing as calories at Disney World?? :sad2:

On a side note: I love the strawberry compote, I must have it with the Tonga Toast. So apparently that makes it worth an extra $5 to me :confused3

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you get it at Captain Cooks, then you are stuck having it with that terrible Nescafe stuff that simulates coffee. If you get it at Kona Cafe, you can get 100% real Kona coffee to go with. I suppose you could run up and get a cup of Kona blend at the Coffee Bar.

You've nailed it! You can buy it at Captain Cooks but if you want it with decent coffee then you're going to have to pay for the convenience. C'mon this is Disney we're talking about here. This was someone's brain child! Plotting and scheming on how to get the guests to pay more money for the best coffee in WDW and, IMHO, the best breakfast.

I think that server was grossly exaggerating the calorie count there. I agree it's a sugar shock, tastewise, but it can't be 3000 calories, if it's made like the recipe posted previously. Would have a hard time getting to be much more than 1000 calories: 1/3 cup of sugar is only 258 calories, couple of slices of bread=200 cals., banana=150 at most for a large, egg =100, milk=40...all that adds up to about 700 calories. Then of course you fry it, but it won't absorb 2000 calories of oil...maybe 250 more. Then sprinkle with sugar for a few more calories.

Even if you dump 1/4 cup of maple syrup on it, you're still going to max out at around 1200 calories.

So, bon appetit ~ whatever the calorie count, it's too sweet for me but it's not really like eating more than a full day's calories at breakfast:thumbsup2
