Tonga Toast???? Which restaurant?

hi,

DH and I will get a breakfast together after one family group leaves and another arrives,,,would love to have a special breakfast with him and tonga toast!!! We are staying at the POP,,,,,

I finally tried the Tonga Toast and I have to say, I really didn't like it that much. It was okay, but I would never order it again. Maybe because of all the hype I was expecting more? Oh well. You have to try it at least once, right!

The first time I had it was at the Tangaroa Terrace at the Poly, (since closed) which still amazes me because it was always full for breakfast. I thought it was very sweet and very rich but it was okay. Something that was served in a large portion and definately something to share. It had been a few years so I got it again this year at the Kona Cafe to share with DS. It was a LOT smaller, still plenty big enough but barely recognizable as french toast. I don't think that they really dipped it in the egg batter. Again, it was okay and if I don't have it for another dozen years, that's okay too.

Personally, my favorite at the Kona Cafe is the macadamia nut pancakes. I order them with ham and a presspot of Kona coffee. The Tonga Toast is a little too sweet for me.

We found that if you order Tonga Toast and something else and share, the Tonga is not so sweet. I thought it was good, but eating the whole thing was more than I could handle.

We've been enjoying Tonga Toast since 1983 long before it was called Tonga Toast. Like Dawn, we use to get it at Tangaroa Terrace.

Anyway, it is the same as always in my opinion....very sweet (we never put syrup on it), very rich, very large and very good. Half an order is more than enough for most in my family.
