The Grand Floridian Cafe has Maple-Vanilla French Toast, the Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge offers a raisin bread french toast, and there is a Brioche French Toast at the Captains Grille. There may be other restaurants around property with something similar.
When I was a kid (many many many many moons ago) I always got the Tonga Toast without the bananas. It actually was on the menu as with or without them. So definitely can't be sure if they will sell it without if it's not on the menu, but I can say they did 25 or so years ago.
I wouldn't want it without the banana - its a large slab of bread and the banana definitely makes it tastier.
If she wants to try a twist on French Toast, the puffed french toast at Crystal Palace is really tasty (and no bananas!) For traditional french toast, I definitely recommend the Grand Floridian Cafe.
I say ask because I am willing to bet that they could do it. IMO, no banana does not make it their regular French Toast. I personally did not like the bananas because mine were black. I know that bananas brown a bit during the cooking process but this was beyond brown. Plus the smell reminded me of baby food and I just could not eat those yucky things. We had horrible service and it was just easier to eat around the bananas than to find the lady again and ask for something else. But the remaining toast was great and way more delicious that DD's and DH's French toast.
I have a sweet tooth for anything but last December I ordered the tonga toast, just scraped out the middle of the bread and didn't eat the banana, it's gross with or without the bananas,it's sickening , just my opinion
maybe your friend should try Kona's macadamia nut pancakes instead? They serve them with pineapple topping...very tasty.
Skip going to Kona Cafe just to order tonga toast...the whole point of the"tonga toast" is that it's banana-stuffed french toast. There is no point in ordering tonga-toast if you don't like bananas. Go elsewhere for plain french toast...
yes you can order the Tonga Toast without banannas. It will still be dipped in the egg, deep fried, smothered in cinnamon sugar and served with the strawberry puree...not excatly "regular" french toast

Ya'll are cracking me up about the bananas. But as someone who has eaten around the bananas and sampled their regular french toast and macadamia nut pancakes, Tonga Toast without bananas is no where close to either of those. Even without the bananas TT is good so OP, I would tell your friend to go for it!
