Tone issues and rides

If you have tone issues... specifically hypertonia or hypotonia..... can you please share with me the rides you do not get on and why?

We do not do Space Mountain because of the seating structure.

DS wants to do Rockin Rollercoaster.... but I'm EXTREMELY hesitant about it.

He rides Big Thunder Mountain and Expedition Everest.... and he's fine as long as I don't release my death grip around his waist.

He wants to try Mission: Space. Which I won't get on..... but DH will take him. (I really don't like feeling restricted)

Thanks!

I think the seating in Rock and Roller Coaster is pretty secure. He'd have to climb or be assisted down into a seat but once in the seat there's a seat belt and shoulder harness. If the issue is hypertonia though then it might be more of a challenge. I have a friend whose child has a pretty severe extensor reflex in her legs and she gets "stuck" or in pain if she gets excited and her legs extend w/in a tight area. For low tone I know the attractions that I *could* ride but can't due to poor trunk control are the Safari in DAK and believe it or not, the new Toy Story attraction at Hollywood Studios. Those cars whip around so quickly that I knew I'd be thrown from one side to another. I know what you mean about the "death grip". When mine were little I'd be holding on for dear life and screaming in fear while they were laughing and screaming for fun, lol. Poor Mom's....--Kathy

Our DS has tone issues, but he is only Hypotonic and in the trunk, so we have truck control issues. I would avoid any of the really jarring rides, like Space Mountain (MK), Dinosaur (AK) or Primeval Whirl (AK) (known as Primeval Hurl :crazy2: in our family, one of DD's fav' rides). He is also not able to handle Splash Mountain, Big Thunder or Everest because of the sudden drops, tho since your DS is able to, I suspect standard coasters will work. In terms of Rockin' Rollercoaster or Mission Space, they both have pretty secure harnesses, and do not have jerky, jarring motion, so your DS should be fine.

Best of luck!

We haven't had to deal with rides yet since my dd is still too little for most rides but it's good to know.

It sounds insignificant, but we had trouble on the Indy Speedway.

It's a very "safe" ride so Justin wanted to go on it, and he wanted to drive. I shared the car with him. But it's harder than it looks if you have low muscle tone. You have to keep a good grip on the steering wheel, it really wants to veer to the side. And you have to press pretty hard on the pedal. He wasn't strong enough to do either.

At first I scooted over enough to take over the gas, but he kept letting go of the steering wheel because it was too hard and we were flinging back and forth bumping the track. So I ended up steering too. And it was hard, even for me, it's nothing like a real car.

It's a cute ride, though. Just know in advance that you'll probably end up taking over. ;)

My daughter and I have tone issues. We have a funky combination of high and low tone. We didn't have any tone issues with any rides. My daughter, 10 (she has CP diagnosis but I have same tone issues so they are most likely due to our metabolic disorder, which is likely a neuromuscular disorder) even rode on Tower of Terror, her favorite ride. We have found that Disney rides are not a problem as they really buckle you in well.

I don't think you could fall out of the Rock n Rollercoaster if you tried but if his head support isn't too great then his head might get bashed around between the shoulder restraints. I seem to remember that they come up quite high, especially on kids.
