Well, tomorrow is IT. My last day working for the same insurance company after almost 31 years. My job was "eliminated" and I didn't want to take their offer to drive 50+ miles 1 way to another office for the $$$ I was being paid. I'm really not sure how I'll be tomorrow at work. It's sad, but kind of exciting at the same time. I get a year serverance so I'm not worried about money, but I feel like I'm leaving my "family" as I've grown up with so many of the people in the office.

Wow, after so many years!! Look at it as a new beginning. Perhaps with the year off you can think of a new adventure to try. I am sure tomorrow will be hard, though.

Wow, congrats on working for the last 30+ years at the same job, that's very respectable!

The first week or two will seem weird, and probably a little sad and maybe even lonely, but then you'll get into a new routine and find out what you'll do for the next chapter of your life. Best of luck to you!

Wow! 30 years at the same company.....you should be proud of that.
You deserve the year off! Enjoy :cool1:

Congratulations...you should be so proud that you didn't job jump during your lifetime....the smartest thing you ever did you should be proud :thumbsup2 now go & enjoy the next chapter of your life

Snoozan, good luck in whatever you decide to do. It will be different for awhile. It seems to be happening quite a bit in the insurance industry. Travelers with their restructuring and closing the Albany Office for their Select Team, Merchants closing their Albany Office and a few other ones making changes - it is scary. I work on the agency side of things. You could always give that a try. Good Luck!

Best of luck to you. I work for Liberty Mutual and hope to put in a few less years than you and be done. Congratulations on 30 years with your company.

About 3 years ago I left a job that I had for 20 years. It was a little strange at first but I soon learned I didn't miss it at all. There were a few people that I miss being around regularly, but the job...not so much.

Good luck, I hope you're pleasantly surprised how well you'll do.:)

Best of luck. 12 years of insurance for 1 company and it was enough. Enjoy your time off. I never ever pictured myself being at home, but its been 4 yrs and I absolutely love it. Stress level of working full time, having a career, and running a house was all I knew, but it doesn't need to be that way.

Enjoy your new life. :goodvibes

Recently, the company, where I had worked for 30 years, laid off 700 people. Many of the people had been with the company many years. They were mostly middle management people who are nearing retirement. It was so sad hearing about the people let go. Many of them started about the same time I did and had spent their entire adult life working for that company.

I was very glad that I decided to retire prior to this happening. It would have broken my heart to have them ask me to leave. Most didn't see it coming. What a terrible shock.

 I just wanted you to know that I'll be sending you good vibes and lots of pixie dust tomorrow. :goodvibes :wizard:

I had a similar thing happen at the end of January. I'd been with my company (insurance) for 23.5 years. And I am too young to retire.

It was hard at first, but I keep looking at this as an adventure, a new chapter in my life. I'm enjoying having the time to do things I haven't done in years, like bake cakes from scratch. (I had a 2.5 to 3 hour round trip commute each day.) And I'm still looking for another full time job, but in my area, it's going to be tough. So, I'm exploring other options, including self employment.

Here's to the next chapter in your life! Relax. Enjoy your break! PM me if you need to chat. As the guys on Ghost Hunters say, "Good job. On to the next!" And only you know what next will be!
