After so many years I was wondering what's the purpose of this attraction? It doesn't fit with the tomorrow land theme and that nasty smell!? What do you guys think should replace it or do you love it ? I would really appreciate everyone's thoughts on this subject? Thanks 8) and have a magical day!

I wish Disney would put the cars on some sort of electric track that would allow the kids to feel like they're driving the cars but at the same time would get rid of the disgusting smell.

Needs a major redo. Surely there is some way to pull it into something that feels Disney themed and update it so that it actually feels like it belongs where it is.

I think the easiest change (i.e. cheapest), and the only one I can think of that fits into the Tomorrowland theme, would be to have electric cars and maintain the current track configuration.

I would love to see it transformed into Radiator Springs, but I don't see how that could happen and maintain the Tomorrowland theme. But really, that area is less and less "tomorrow-ish" all the time.

To be honest im 28 and i could agree on the as smell but love the ride we go every-time and cant stop laughing me and the wife.... Its so much a challenge to try and keep the car on the track crack us up every time love it when we are in disney we just let go and turn into kids

I love the ride as well, I'm hoping they go to an electric version or something I think it would be much better than what they have now. They could also add some tomorrow land effects to the ride to make it even better.

From a child's perspective, this is perhaps one of the most exciting rides found within MK. For those kids who aren't tall enough to ride rollercoasters, or are simply afraid to ride them, this is one of those "go-to" rides.

As a youngster, this was my absolute favorite ride at WDW. The thought of being able to pilot my very own car as a little kid - where else can you do that as a child but WDW?

As an adult, I understand the underwhelming feeling that this ride presents, but it is still a must-do for me, as it makes me reminisce about my carefree, childhood adventures to WDW, which are some of the best memories I have.

It's going to be a must-do for us on our college trip, too, even though all of us are over 18. Why? Because 2 of the people on our trip are blind, and have never been able to drive before. They'll each be riding with one person with full vision, and we will probably end up controlling the gas so we don't run into the cars in front of us, but they're thrilled they'll be able to "drive" :)

Don't control the gas for them, except at the end of the ride when everything backs up. Just have them take off their foot off the gas every time you shout BRAKE. And the cars have bumpers for those little mishaps.

We're going to try that, but the girl that I'm going with isn't really sure she wants to have *that* much control lol. She's a bit nervous about it, but really excited at the same time. She does have some vision, mostly distance vision, so she might be OK doing it all, it will be one of those wait and see when we get there things.

I'll tell you why this fits in Tomorrowland, although it is a bit nostalgic.

The Autopia/Tomorrowland Speedway is futuristic from the viewpoint that the opening of Disneyland predates the Interstate Highway Act (1956).

We were standing there watching the cars go by. Then one goes ny with my friend at the wheel with his wife. Guess you can't take the kid out of some 71 year olds.

Sorry to those who love this ride ... but I've been saying this for years: it doesn't fit the theme, it's old, it smells, it's noisy, and it's a slow-loader with long waits in the sun.

It's also a big piece of prime real estate. I say tear it out and put in a 5th mountain ride ... and then a monorail right to it so I don't have to walk to it.

All I know is that every time I walk by its crowded. I just wish that there weren't so many cars that you end up in bumper to bummer traffic like you are on I-4 tiring to get into Disney

Like traffic on I 4.

Got to keep some realism in it.

Why tear it down when it is popular.

simply quick fix:

re-theme to cars
new bodies
redo décor around the track
build in some rock work (nothing to major like carsland but something)
setup cars and track to be electric

it's close enough to fantasyland anyways and this would cure a lot of issues it has

I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with a re-theming to "Cars", but as others have mentioned, it wouldn't exactly fit the Tomorrowland theme.

I don't quite get all of the complaints about the noise. Are the cars really that loud... loud enough to the point where it makes people want to demolish this ride... or am I just going deaf at an early age??? In my opinion, these things aren't much louder than a gas-powered golf-cart, especially when you're riding in them. I will concede that the volume near the unloading area - where the cars pass under the concrete bridge which probably acts as a barrier for the sound to bounce off of - becomes a bit noisy, but certainly not to the point where you can't talk over them. In all of the times I've strolled through Tomorrowland, I've never once said to myself "Great - we're coming up on those obnoxiously loud race cars again"...

In my opinion, there are other areas of Tomorrowland that desparately need attention before the Speedway. I.E. Stitch's Great Escape. Also, if you're hurting for realestate and want to drastically reduce noise in TL, they can gladly tear down that stupid dance stage between Space Mountain and the Peoplemover entrance. Nothing ruins my TL experience more than hearing hip-hop music as I'm entering the Peoplemover - the one thing that is supposed to be a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of the Tomorrowland.

One word: "Hovercraft". I'm not one to dream about what improvements should be made to the parks; but, I can't help but to think how cool the Speedway would be if they replaced the cars with hovercraft. They could theme the attraction so the hovercraft looked like flying cars and they "flew" through a futuristic version of Radiator Springs. Change the track a little so the cars went on land and across water. Give the riders a choice of autopilot or manual control mode.

I don't mind the noise or smell as much as the ride is just not futuristic and cars that don't appear to have been updated in over 40 years. It just doesn't seem to keep up with the concept of FL anymore.
