Tom Sawyer - Totally Underrated

barrel bridge gone!! so sad... I"m sure some precious little mope did something he shouldn't have, law suit threatened.. bridge removed. It seems to always be something along the lines of "that's why we can't have nice/fun things" (now I'm just making a very broad guess here... not fact)

Our kids love it there. Great way to let them just run around and play for a while (and for the adults to enjoy the empty, AIR CONDITIONED bathrooms).

The barrel bridge was "Tom and Huck's way" right? We did the "other way" this most recent time

Yes, I agree. You can get kind of frantic running around trying to do all the rides but Tom Sawyer's Island forces you to slow down a bit. Great for a relaxing stroll and / or sit down to watch the bustle on the other side.

The island holds one of our fav family stories...we had nephew, 12 and niece, 7 with us and they walked ahead as the four of us had just entered Native American Joe's cave. I suddenly hear a frantic sob from darling niece, "I can't see, I'm blind!" Before I can react I hear her older brother's rather sarcastic voice respond lethargically..."Well, if you'd take off your sunglasses it would probably help." Following a heartbeat of pause we heard a rather meek "oh, yeah"...The four of us began laughing so hard we had to stop and let others pass by. Guess we're an easily entertained family because all these years later we still laugh about it.

My DD doesn't like. She had a bad experience on the island and has vowed never to return......

Sad about the barrel bridge! Bouncing up and down on that was one of the best memories of my first WDW trip!

DW and i still enjoy our experience on TSI , it gives us time to relax and opportunity to get away from crowds for a bit.

Tom Sawyer's Island has a special place in my Disney heart :-) It's never a "must do" in our plans but undoubtably somewhere about half way into our trip we need a little break from the non stop thrill of rides and noise of attractions (we always stay two weeks and although it is wonderful sometimes you need a little break) and we take the sloooow ride over to TSI. We always have a great over there away from the crowds. It is cooler over there and we always take great pictures. Some of my best vacation memories are from there. And no fastpass needed :-)

It's a favorite for our family, and a must-do. I'll be sad if my kids ever outgrow it.

I remember the last time I went and I had a really good time walking through the caves. It was nice to get away from the intensity of MK for awhile

I did it for the first time in many trips last trip this past June and my boyfriend loved it, seeing it for the first time. I have such fond memories of watching little duck families from the barrel bridge! It was a nice relaxing half hour or so, and the non-existent bathroom lines were awesome haha! Maybe we will venture back over in December. Our skipper for the barge was also from close to where we live at home, which was really neat!

We use it for an "in-between" FP thing to do. We always get so thirsty over there, though -- do wish there were a few buildings to go inside and buy beverages/snacks and maybe a little gift shop too.

Just wanted to update since I was the one who reported that the barrel bridge was missing when we were there in mid August. DH and I just got back last week from a little getaway and I am happy to report that the barrel bridge is back!
