Tom Sawyer - Totally Underrated

Agreed, the raft is brutal in the hot sun. But without the raft, if guests could just walk over, it would be way too crowded and wouldn't be enjoyable as a getaway from the typical afternoon mayhem surrounding BTMRR and Splash.

So it was designed to suck, to keep guests away? Sort of like how the QWERTY keyboard was originally intended to slow down typing to prevent typewriter jams?

:)

There's a snappy retort here somewhere applying that keyboard analogy to FP+, but I can't seem to find it. I like to think of the rafts as "keeping out the riff-raff", similar to rope drop. Because it can be unpleasant/undesirable to get up early for rope drop, the parks are a lot less crowded in the morning. I'll suffer through a raft ride in the blazing sun so I can relax and take a nap in one of those rocking chairs.

We love TSI, both at MK and DLR. It's always been one of my favorites since visiting as a child. Great place to relax. Good views of Haunted Mansion and BMTRR. I wish Aunt Polly's was open more often. I could do with a lemonade or ice cream bar while rocking in a chair watching the Liberty Belle go by. Has a good view of the parade from afar and keeps you out of the parade crowds. DS will ask all day at MK to do it until he gets to:) Even over the roller coasters and pretty much any other ride.

One of my husband's favorite memories is from our first trip as a couple - long before the kiddos were around. We went to Tom Sawyer Island and had lunch at Aunt Polly's. It was just a ham sandwich but he said there was something about those rocking chairs and the cool shade that made it his favorite lunch at the Magic Kingdom :)

We're going to TSI as a family on our January trip and, perhaps oddly, it is one of the things I am looking forward to most. This is only our second trip and we didn't have time for it last trip.

Does anyone feel similarly about the Swiss Robinson Treehouse? We skipped that last time and I am planning on skipping it again. I watched a youtube video about it and it seemed like it could be fun, but this video turned me off of it because there were tons of people on it and the line through it moved super slowly. I don't want to climb a treehouse while being ***-to-elbows with a bunch of strangers. This video almost felt like a really cool que for another ride

I would suggest watching the movie before you go down there, you would enjoy the tree house more.

I agree, if you haven't seen the movie the treehouse is meh at best. That said it's one of my favorite movies and I love the treehouse, and I know it's days have to be numbered....too bad they can't move it to the island!

I would feel similarly about it if there wasn't always a mob of people. Either I feel rushed because I've got someone behind me trying to crawl up my backside or I've got a group in front of me taking 20 selfies at each stop. I suppose I could do it at rope drop to avoid that problem but... nah.

We usually let DS9 do it by himself, while we get a Dole Whip. DS doesn't like Dole Whip, so we get him some other snack to eat, then he does the treehouse. It gives us some time to sit and relax near the tree and watch him, and he's not bored while we do it.

Do the treehouse at night, it's so much better. Try to pick a time when no one else is headed up the first set of stairs, so you can have some space too. We love the treehouse at night!

We love TSI too, especially the caves! But I couldn't see the barrel bridge from the Haunted Mansion queue (August) - it looked like it had been removed. Maybe just to get repaired? Someone check for me please!

Is Aunt Polly's ever open? The last time we were there (Aug '13) it wasn't. I'm curious if and when it is.

Does anyone know if they still hide the paint brushes for the first trip of the day? I meant to do it the last time we went but could never fit it in, and so was hoping to do it this trip.

I think the paint brushes have been gone for years.

Gee I never thought of moving it to the island.....why not?...big helo....pick it up and set it in a nice location.

The movie was shot on the island of Tobago had top actors, Sir John MILLS (Hally Mills Dad) and Dorothy Malone. Arthur MacArthur...The animals were all brought in. Walt visited the shoot 2 or three times.

The treehouse in the movie was in a actual tree.

Some of the parts of the original treehouse in DL, were props from the movie like the orginial Organ and the ships wheel.

That is such a cool fact! We have an 'off' day, where I wanted to visit MK in the morning and do our reort the rest of the day. I think we will visit the treehouse & TSI!

I always go to Tom Sawyer Island now, even when going there with my brother. It's underappreciated and a good area to go around

The barrel bridge was definitely still there. TSI is something we'll do in the afternoon while waiting to use a BTMRR or Splash FP, after running around all morning. Have napped there in a rocking chair facing BTMRR several times. Did they stop doing the paintbrush hunt? We went over there once early in the morning and found one of the paintbrushes, that was fun while it lasted.
We were there in mid August and the barrel bridge is definitely not there anymore. They were gone and the entrance to them was blocked completely off. My family and I were curious as to why they had been removed because it was a favorite with our kiddos

Well that is a shame if the barrel bridge is gone for good.
