Tom Sawyer - Totally Underrated

I don't hear a lot about Tom Sawyer but recently started doing it again. After a week in Disney, I'm a bit roller coasted out so I love hopping on the first raft over to Tom Sawyer and exploring when it seems like I have almost the entire place to myself, away from the crowds of Magic K.

Anyone else agree?

It was cute when my kids were younger and they liked climbing and playing with the toy rifles. I just don't see us going back anytime soon.

Did they remove the barrel bridge? The one you could see from the Haunted Mansion queue?

ive heard of it...but have not gone...i figure i'll go on this trip..before it eventually gets removed..

We've never made it over there! . I'm making it a priority for this trip since we have a young daughter.

Unless you have kids there's not a huge draw to go back very often. It's cute, but the raft to get there and back is slow and there's not a lot to do (other than relax) as an adult once you've seen it. I do think it's a great place for kids to run around and explore and get out of the lines and crowds.

It's cute, you get some great views from there. It's hard one to try to fit in on a short trip but on a longer trip it's fun.

We spent an enjoyable hour between fast passes there away from the massive crowds on Christmas late morning last year. The kids enjoyed exploring, we enjoyed the peace and space,no lines for a bathroom, and great photo views of Big Thunder Mt Railroad.

It's all about nostalgia for me. I grew up going to DLR and it was always a must do, even as an adult when my DH and I went we always went, and then when I had my kids and was able to take them to WDW we made sure to take them. I really enjoy it because it reminds me of a simpler time and it's just a nice place to breathe.

I just wish they would reopen Aunt Polly's Dockside Diner and reinststate the Paintbrush Hunt-that would really add a lot to TSI.:)

(There used to even be a Snack bar in The Fort!)

My boys love it, to be honest I do not. I always get over there and wish to go back! I have to take a deep breath and "let it go" and let the boys enjoy.

It's always been our "gotta-get-away" spot. Even as adults its just a calm, cool, place to just stroll around. I like people watching from the distance of the island and just relaxing. If you have small kids it's a lot of fun. Of course this all works if your on a loosey-goosey schedule and not a cut-throat gotta-do-it-all trek.

The barrel bridge was there when I went in April.

We enjoyed walking around on it, but as we don't have kids, it's probably not something we'd go back to see. It really is a very nice quiet area though. I saw one couple with a young toddler, maybe just over 2, hanging out on a bench and the child was taking a nap on some little rollout mat they'd brought. I thought that was a really smart idea and then they didn't have to leave to go to the hotel and come back later!

We always went to the island when the kids were younger. We loved the fort and the caves.

The barrel bridge was definitely still there. TSI is something we'll do in the afternoon while waiting to use a BTMRR or Splash FP, after running around all morning. Have napped there in a rocking chair facing BTMRR several times. Did they stop doing the paintbrush hunt? We went over there once early in the morning and found one of the paintbrushes, that was fun while it lasted.

Shhhhh! Keep it down. Or before you know it, the only way on the island will be to buy a $90 "Aunt Polly's Dessert Party" package.

Only half joking!
