Tom Daschle...

And what do you call shooting at our planes in the "no fly" zone. This has been going on intermittantly for at least 10 years!

I wonder who will be there for our troops now.

That's a great question! I am sure that there are entertainers who feel gratitude and responsibility towards providing our troops with some "down time". Martha Ray was a great friend of Special Forces during Viet Nam. She was also a nurse and visited and entertained the troops frequently. They even made her an honorary Green Beret. If the Hollywood left truly cared about anyone but themselves, they would volunteer for the USO and do their share.

Daschle is a, darn cannot find a nonbleepable word to put there. I just think that he is showing us his political track..........when is his reelection?

The only reason why Daschle and other Democratic leaders are blasting Bush is for one reason and one reason only, the Presidential election is next year. This all boils down to politics and it drives me crazy. We are literally hours away from war and all some of these people can think about is getting a Democrat elected next year, which in order to do that they have to go against the President with every move he makes. They should grow up and be united with the President. I think a major advantage to winning a war is to have a united front, JMHO.

so, if you love your country, support the troops, but disagree with the decisions the Bush Administration has made, you should have to leave the country?

Only those who agree with this administration are true American's? I have to disagree with those beliefs. I don't think that's what the US democracy is all about is it?

or perhaps they, like MANY other Americans, simply disagree with the current administration and are expressing their opinions?

I would agree with you, but for only one thing, Daschle was on Bush's side last year about going into Iraq with force if he did not disarm. Now that the Presidential election is next year, all of a sudden he doesn't agree.

Exactly, ByThe Sea.

I thought that this was America?!?! You know, the land of the free where people can express opinions contrary to the official government opinion without fear of government reprisal?

I am SOOOO tired of the "if you're not for the war you're not a a good American and you should just leave" mentality. It is possible to be a patriot and support the troops while simultaneously thinking that GWB is/was hellbent on a war, no matter what. These ideas are not mutually exclusive.

Once again this board has elevated my blood pressure.

Men and women have fought and died for our right to express our beliefs. Just because somene does not agree with you does not give you the right to "ship him to France" Did you notice that ALL of the Iraq parliment agreed with Saddam? Now I assume that you don't believe they had a choice and had to say that. However, you seem to feel that our elected officials should act just like those in Iraq. Well I don't. If you think everyone should always agree with the President, I think that there are LOTS of places you might want to consider living, but you won't ever be happy here.

I have SEVERE concerns about this war! I would NEVER take those concerns out on a member of our armed forces. They have pledged to follow the orders of our Commander In Cheif. They have NO play in the decision to go to war or not.

The assumption that if I don't support the President I don't support the troops is BUNK and I am insulted by it and tired of reading it on these boards.

Carol, No one would ever want to deny you your absolute right to express your opinion but just like the Dixie Chicks and the Hollywood Left, when you express an opinion that the majority of Americans disagree with, you have to understand that they will express their opinion of your opinion. They too have the right to feel insulted.

This is also not a debate over freedom of speech.

It's also not a debate over going to war. The time to debate whether or not to go to war is over. This is the hand we've been dealt and now we have to play it out.

There's a big difference right now between you or I saying that we disagree with the war, or president, or whatever - and a state Senator bad-mouthing our country's leader in a public forum. Now we (at least the branches of our government) need to stand together and present a united front.

A house divided cannot stand.

I guess what bothers me the most is that Daschle was FOR going after Iraq some time ago. Funny how politics and upcoming elections make you change your mind.

With all due respect, CarolA, because this type of statement gets MY blood boiling:

Have you listened to or read the interviews with our troops in the Middle East? We have a volunteer army, and the overwhelming majority of them agree with the Bush Administration's policy about Iraq. To suggest that they are only following orders, and have no thoughts of their own about this policy is to belittle the choices and sacrifices they make.

I find it very hard not to chuckle at those contradicting themselves when they say they support our troops, but not the war. It's not possible to really do both!

Absolutely. It's time to show a united front. I'm tired of all these "armchair presidents" who think that it is SOOOOO easy.

Wait a minute now. By the nature of the beast, when you enlist you KNOW that war is ALWAYS a possibilty! You're becoming a SOLDIER, for Pete's sake. Those could have chosen not to go to war by choosing NOT to enlist.

I am so thankful that we have a President with a personal relationship with a Higher Power. I am NOT saying that any other president didn't or that any congress person doesn't. I am just thankful that President Bush does.

I would NEVER want to be in a position to have to put men/women in danger. I trust and believe that our government knows things that we don't nor should we know everything.

Tom Dashle has a right to his opinions. However, I am not sure he picked the best time time to voice them. I am sure Saddam loves knowing that part of our own governnment agrees with him that war is not necessary. That is how I see it. Saddam thinks war is ill-times as do many Democrats. So, the two are thinking alike on that topic.

I feel that it is possible to support our troops and yet disagree with initiation of aggressive action in Iraq.

How.. well let me tell you. My son is active duty army as are many other of my relatives and friends. DH is former USMC, we have a number of friends sitting on the berm in Kuwait. We send letters and packages, words of encouragement and prayers for peace and safety. Altho I disagree with initiation of aggressive action in Iraq- I find it difficult to justify this politically and ethically, I will support Mr. Bush and his decision to declare war as I feel he probably knows a hec of alot more than I do when it comes to the world and its problems. However, until war is declared I feel that this in now the time for those who oppose this possibility to let the govt know their view. We are certainly not anti-American. I try to listen to all views on this situation, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However to belittle another person for their opinion does not solve anything. That would include bashing of our President by anyone including those in the entertainment spotlight. It is not easy to have this opinion believe me.. I am in the process of losing a friend because she and I disagree on this topic. She is the wife of an Active duty Marine and is having a really hard time with the protests against the war. She feels as you do bsnyder.
