I'd suggest having quarters and dollar bills in hand. Some tolls, you are able to pay a toll collector who can provide you with change. There are a few locations, though, that there are no toll collectors and you need to have exact change or an epass to go through. I just encountered one of these unmanned ones during my last trip...which surprised me. I think the tolls range from .25 to 1.50 per plaza along the Oceola Pkwy, Greene Way and Beeline expressway.

It's been awhile since I've researched it, but I believe if you get to the Florida Dept. of Transportation website, there are ways to calculate what your toll charges will be on certain roads in the State...such as the Florida turnpike.

Hope this helps!

When we went in May and December, we went through tolls that were 75 cents each. They had two lanes for people who did not have exact change. And about 4 lanes for unmanned lanes. You need exact change in these lanes. We had a roll of quarters in the car handy. You just throw your three quarters into this hopper/basket, the light turns green and you can pass through.

there are toll way booths that are totally unmanned--that is no toll takers in any of the booths going either way. for these you need correct change(quarters).
If you are like us, we tend to get very lost & often have to double back :crazy2:
so are sure to stock up on quarters! :teeth:

coming across one of these unmanned booths, if you don't have change, stop then go thru--we like to wave our dollar bills & smile for the camera :upsidedow
We were told by someone we know (works for the Florida Hwy Dept) that once or twice may be okay, but more than that is not okay.
we were very surprised that the unmanned booths hadn't provisions made to pay tolls with anything other than correct change. Not good for the state & we don't like feeling like cheaters :worried:
by the by, the E Pass used in Florida is not compatible with the EZ Pass system used in NH & other states, at least this is what we were told by a Fl toll booth worker this past December

Enjoy a Magical trip!

Some tolls are $1. What road will you be on? The 417, 528, Osceola Parkway, 408, FL turnpike are the roads that have tolls. Are you driving or flying?

If you are getting off at the major exits they are manned and can pay in cash. The smaller exits require exact change.

On the 417 Greenway (South exit from Airport) there are two $1 booths between MCO and Disney.

The 429 is a toll road as well. It's now open from Apopka and 192, and no one is using it south of route 50. The direct ramp to WDW which will come out by CSR is not open yet. It's still not going to save anyone any time getting to WDW unless they are locals.

I didn't add that one since it isn't finished. Once the OP mentions what way they are coming we can all give better information.

I remember asking almost the exact same question about tolls before our first trip to Florida 2 years ago! As a fellow BC'er, I had no clue how much a toll would be...I think they were no more than $1 each. We didn't pass through many, since we were mainly going from MCO to WDW, not many other places.

Thanks for the reminder to stock up on change before we go! ;)

Thanks for clarifying this even further. I'm not used to using the Osceola Parkway and found myself going in the wrong direction. No problem, I figured. Got off an exit, saw an exact change lane and chose the other, not ever expecting an unmanned toll area. Stopped, then pulled through and over onto the shoulder. WALKED to the booth area and all around it looking for a human (sometimes I have very strong denial tendencies...), when another driver told me I would find no one there. He was nice enough not to be laughing at the obvious tourist! I put my quarter in and said my prayers that my rental company would not contact me about any fine for driving through and not paying a toll.

The system really is pretty poor. In an area as saturated in tourists as Orlando is, I would've thought there would be some provision made for someone who is unprepared and uninformed about a toll. Next time I'll know to stop in the exact change lane and dig the change out of my purse while all the locals in a hurry sit behind me and..... :teeth:

Before we got Sunpass, I lost count of the confused tourists who would be stopped in front of us and would frantically run back to our car to see if we had change for a dollar! Fortunately we keep a cup of change, so we'd just chuck some quarters at them. Now we whiz by in the automatic lane, but we still see lots of people stuck in the manual.
