Tolls and Car Rentals?

Whoa!!! I just read the fine print on the Dollar car rental about the toll charges for rentals. Then I went to the Florida Toll calculator website. Wow:scared1:... $37.00 per rental period for the pass 24.

Do you really need to buy this pass from the car rental company? We have a sunpass account for our vehicles and RV. Is there some way we could use it?

where exactly will you be driving? If it's just in the Orlando area, you do not have to have the transponder on *at all*. There are no cashless tolls in the area at this point.

Re; above post. So where are the cashless tolls if not in orland/ disney? thanks

:confused3

There are some cashless tolls on Florida's Turnpike in the Miami area.

Thank you so much for your help. We haven't been to the Orlando area since 2009, so I thought most tolls had changed to cashless. We will only be driving from MCO to WDW and later in the trip we will go to US.

With Dollar rental you have to opt in or opt out of paying for the toll pass (Pass 24) when you pick up the car. So, unless you know for sure you are going to need it, then I think it's a waste of money.

Now, when I have to wait in those lines at the toll booths I might be wishing I had the pass. LOL! Nah...it will just prepare me for waiting in lines at Disney.

Ask for a receipt when you go through the toll. My BIL wasn't able to prove he paid the toll and had quite a problem because of it.

YOu are welcome. The rental car websites cause this question to pop up often, because of their generic, but specific-sounding, warning about needing their service.

Ask for a receipt when you go through the toll.

:thumbsup2

We were at one of the unmanned, 75 cent, booths, and the light never went to green. VERY frustrating. We decided to give them an extra 75 cents, and as each quarter went in I took pictures of the display (going from .75 to .50 to .25 and then it went back to .75, never hitting zero or turning the green light on) and the still red light, just to have some proof that we'd fed the toll.

Never heard from them, though, so I guess they know that one is funky (it was on some road leading to or from Best Buy).
