Toll Violation

Anyone have any luck disputing a toll violation? I just got a bill in the mail for $25.50 from the state of New Jersey for a "Toll Violation".. Here's the thing I paid that toll. I have never just driven through a toll booth and not paid a toll. But for some reason the handy dandy camera took a picture of my plate. I know it isn't much to pay but it just irritates me that I paid the toll yet still I get this in the mail.

Does the form list a way to dispute it or contest it?

I guess you don't have EZ Pass. I have EZ pass but have gotten the toll violation notice if the transponder wasn't read for some reason. I just have to give them my ez pass number and they deduct the toll from my account with no $25 penalty.

Did you drive through an EZ Pass Only lane? Even tossing coins in the basket will trigger the violation if the lane was only scanning transmitters.

Years ago, we found ourselves in an EZ Pass only lane because we couldn't see the overhead sign that said "EZ Pass Only"...by the time we realized it was impossible to get out and over to a cash lane. Ironically, there was a woman IN the booth doing nothing but handing out EZ Pass Violation notices. My husband tried to hand her the cash but she refused to take it, saying she couldn't in an "EZ Pass Only" lane.

We didn't have to pay the $25 violation because it was our 'first offense', but we were assured that if it ever happened again we'd have to pony up the $25.

No I paid the teller the money. I remember this toll because usually you'll get a light indicator right off once the money is taken. I waited a few second (maybe only 30) and the indicator light didn't shine but I figured I was fine because I had just paid. So I proceeded through.

We recently got a letter from NJ stating that my DH hadn't paid the toll. Ironically enough, he has an EZ pass transponder and it WAS charged for the toll on that day. He sent them a copy of the statement and at the end of the day, they charged us again for the toll. My DH decided it wasn't worth fighting for $1.

1. Let's start a fad. Whenever using the teller lanes, ask for a receipt.

2. The teller was thumbing his nose at you and all those behind you by facing the other way and talking to someone on his cell phone (or texting someone on his iPod) and not promptly (within a few seconds, maybe only 30) pressing the go button on his console to flash the green "thank you" light that tells you that you may proceed.

You can call and try to dispute it. We have twice gotten letters stating that we didn't pay the toll, and have never taken our toll road here the entire time we've lived here. Once, it said we had used the toll road and we were even out of state on vacation during that time! Anyway, we called and they took the charge off both times no problem, so it might be worth a call.

When that happens, I have to beep the horn. I learned that after the light didn't go on and a ticked off driver behind me did the honors :rotfl:
