Toll roads

Hey guys. We're planning a trip for October, hopefully. Since our son now requires a kids admission, we're planning on driving from NW Georgia to Disney as opposed to flying in and letting him experience a plane ride and the whole DME in an effort to save some money. We'd be taking I-75 for most of the trip and it looks like we'd be on I-4 for a short period. We don't have toll roads up here, so I have no clue what to expect in terms of cost, payment options, etc. Can anyone direct me to a site that goes over these items in detail or share the information if you know it? Thanks for any insight!

You probably want to get off I-75 onto Florida's Tpke and then FL-429 into WDW. Staying on I-75 all the way to I-4 in the Tampa area would be way out of the way, and also could get you into some heavy traffic unnecessarily.

Both the Tpke and 429 are toll roads. Both take cash at all mainline toll plazas. Just remember to watch for the signs for the cash lanes as you approach a toll plaza; usually you'll have to exit the main roadway to the cash lines off to the right. There's no toll at the exit from 429 to WDW.

The cash lanes have exact change lanes, plus always at least one lane with an attendant who can give change. All the tolls are in multiples of $.25, so you just need a roll of quarters to use the exact change lanes. I don't know the total amount, but I think a $10 roll of quarters should cover it.

Thanks. I overlooked 429 on Google Maps, but it would have me going down 75, hoping onto the Florida Turnpike, and then onto I-4 closer to Orlando. I'm guessing it's taking us that way because we're considering staying at Port Orlean's Riverside or French Quarter.

I checked the route you described on the Florida Turnpike website. According to that, a one way trip from I-75 to I-4 on the turnpike will encounter 2 tolls. One at Leesburg Mainline plaza for $3.25, and one at the exit for I 4 for $1.00. Return trip shows the same tolls.

According to the website, cash tolls were just raised in October 2017 and are only supposed to be adjusted once every 5 years so you should be safe there. I can't give you information on Joel's route because I can't see where you transfer from the turnpike to FL 429. I'm sure once you figure out the route on Google Maps, you can Google FL 429 and look up the toll information on its website.

Yes, if you're coming down I-4 from the Tpke, Google will have you coming into WDW on Epcot Center Dr., and exiting a short block from PO. OTOH, from 429 you'd be driving from one side of WDW to the other on Buena Vista Dr., which has lots of traffic lights and can be slow at times.

But if you can, keep Google Maps on with traffic turned on, or at least check it when you're passing Clermont. I-4 can get seriously backed up if there's an accident, or even just when it's raining at the wrong time of day, and Google may recommend a route change.

We drive down from Athens all the time. We take the turnpike then get off on 429 (I think that's the number, my GPS takes us that way instead of I4). I would suggest doing it that way because I4 can be a bear. It's around a total of $8.50 for tolls total both ways. I have a bag I keep in my car that is the toll bag, we just use my honey's coins that he empties out of his pockets. There will be signs on the turnpike telling you the exit to WDW, it's easy as can be.

No need for " Sun Pass " ........ Just Pay Cash ...... . Keep RIGHT as you approach TOLL EXIT & Follow " Cash BOOTH " with Green Light

The Peach Pass that you have in Georgia compatible with the electronic tolling lanes in Florida. Lets you avoid the manual tolling lanes where you can get stuck behind someone searching for change at the toll booth or someone asking for directions.

Plus the Peach Pass lets you use all of the express toll lanes around Atlanta which can save you quite a bit of time.
