Toll question

The main plaza's still have cash lanes but most, if not all, exit tolls are automated.

Just as an FYI, different rental agencies treat electronic tolls differently. For what it's worth, I find National/Alamo/Enterprise's program to be worth it. Most other rental agencies charge a fee per rental day, whether you use tolls that day or not. The National program only charges you on days you *use* e-tolls. So, for $8 ($4 each way plus tolls) I avoid any lines at the main plazas and the need to remember to bring a roll of quarters.

We just set up a sun pass account and use it for the rental car.

I've used a Sun Pass for years and they make it easier for you to use with your rental car. The movable pass was the way i went (when it still had lights) The new one with suction cups makes it so easy. Even when I have taken the Auto Train to Sanford I prefer to take the Toll Roads to avoid the I-4 parking lot.

Another vote for the sun pass. Just get the portable one if you are using a rental car. I purchased the $5 for my minivan since we always drive it to Disney.

You save a little bit on the tolls, don't have to keep quarters in your car and get to cruise right thru the toll lanes while everyone else waits in super long lines to pay. It is a win-win. Wish I had done it sooner!

And my sun pass now works in Georgia. It is fantastic

Surpass doesn't charge you a monthly fee like some toll systems do. It's $20 plus tax for the one that's movable. I'm pretty sure you'll have to list the rental car in your account but easy to do with a smartphone. You can order and set up online.

Are you referring to the 2 main $1.50 toll plazas on the way from the airport, just west of Boggy Creak and just before exit 6. These are the ones that still having a lane with a person?
Do all the tool plazas still have the lanes where you toss in your quarters, or only the sun pass lanes now?
Thanks.

The tolls make DME a little bit more appealing. Thanks for the Sunpass tips. Do the rental car companies explain the toll requirements to renters, or do they assume everyone knows?

I always use Aisle service at Orlando, and have never had the tolls explained. Counter service might, as might other agencies.

If there isn't anyone taking cash, they'll get your license plate and send you a bill. We've gotten one from a trip our son took.

It's called toll by plate. For FL it's the toll plus $2.50 and I think that's per time though I've not personally seen one that covered more than one toll booth. My sister just got one for GA (car they'd sold) and it was $27, admin of $25 I believe. I wonder if FL would escalate the charges if done repeatedly. One could email surpass to see.

I have my GPS set for "avoid tolls," and I never pay a toll.
Arriving, I go to the Disney outlet store north of MCO, and then continue down to WDW.
Returning, I go directly to MCO. The GPS takes me on the access or "conduit" to the main highway, and then slightly north.
It might take slightly longer, but I get from WDW to MCO in about 40 minutes in the morning.

You're in effect likely paying to avoid tolls because you'll travel further, take longer, use more fuel and be on busier roads with more risk of an accident.

duplicate, it didn't go through the first time on my end.

Roads aren't that busy, time is not bad, and with gas at $2 per gallon, I'd have to travel maybe 20 miles extra to make up the difference.

I can't speak for anyone but myself..
I live near Universal and work at MCO. I know how to get there using non toll roads. Besides the hidden costs of the non toll roads, it maintains my sanity, and blood pressure, to pay the toll and take the highway.

The point was there is real cost and real risk not using the tolls roads.
