I just booked a rental car thru Dollar and noticed an option for a pass for the tolls which went on to say that they were moving to a cashless toll system and rental cars wouldnt have the option to pay?! They want $6.99 per day for this option. Is this true? Can you not pay cash at the toll booths anymore?

completely false at this time. There is a cash option toll lane. There is a thread on the 2nd page I believe. Looks like the Dollar car rental is trying to get you money with their statement.

Seems that some car rental companies are trying to augment their cash flow with telling customers that they have to get this. BUT....there is no issue with these 'cashless' tolls in the WDW area. Yes, it can be an issue if you are driving further south. BUT....I just drove from Sanford to WDW and had no issues at all. I was able to pay cash at every toll booth. Same thing from MCO.
Don't allow the car rental companies to force you into buying something you don't need.

Thank you so much for the info! Not only are they pushing it, they tell you that if you go thru a cashless toll without being "prepaid" Dollar will charge you $25.00 PER TOLL ! Can you imagine??

Dollar isn't the only one pushing this. It tried Budget and they had the same notification. We usually travel to Disney in Aug. We spend the first two days at Universal so when we leave the airport we travel on the Beeline. Do they still let you pay with cash? We then take the 417 back to MCO. Do you think that we will be okay with cash in Aug? I got the car rental for a reasonable rate but having to add the toll transponder pushes up the rental rate plus all the taxes and fees.

Yes, they take cash on the BeeLine (AKA BeachLine or 528). I've heard of no plans to stop taking cash that would affect your August visit.

All the toll roads around the Orlando/Disney area still take cash, that applies to the Beachline (Beeline) and 417.

Just be careful regarding the mainline toll plazas. At most (but not all) toll plazas around Orlando, cars with Sunpass or E-PASS transponders remain on the main highway and travel under the toll sensor at highway speeds. Those paying cash must "exit" the toll road, pay at the toll booth and then merge back onto the road. Toll plazas are boldly signed but if you're not paying attention you could stay on the main road and the toll agency will bill back to the rental car company. And that's when the rental company could hit you with a large fee nonetheless. So be careful. This is a picture of what many toll plazas look like; notice how you "exit" to pay cash.

NOTE:
Roads owned by the local Expressway Authority have transponders called E-PASS, those operated by the Florida Turnpike Authority call theirs SunPass. Both are interoperable with each other no matter what the sign says. However, E-ZPass from the midwest and northeast U.S. is a completely different system and does not work in Florida.
