Toll charges in error

I used Budget to drive from Disney to Port Canaveral and we had the Sunpass turned off on our rental. We used the cash toll lanes to pay all of our tolls. There is a phone number to call with questions but I have been unable to get through.

How easy is it to get the toll charges reversed? Will they do anything or am I stuck with the charges?
 
I just got some toll charges reversed on a Budget rental in Chicago. I called the phone number that showed up on the transaction on my credit card statement. There's a call-back option, and they did call back but it took an hour.

I first called a month ago, and they told me to email receipts -- which I did, but I never heard back from them. So I called again today, and they found the email, apologized that it was "missed", and got an email back that they were reversing the charge.

Apart from the long time to call back and temporarily losing my email, the phone reps seemed friendly and helpful. It might have been different if I hadn't had the receipts.

Assuming the unwarranted toll charges were billed to your credit card, the last resort is to dispute the charge with your credit card issuer. You should try Joel's suggestion first, because you have to try to resolve things directly with the company before falling back on the credit card company.

In the end, though, it's up to the company who charged your card. I had a situation with Kaplan Test prep where their instructor simply didn't show up and they refused to refund the $700...and there is nothing the credit card company could do.
 
I had one reversed easily in January, but it was only for a dollar something (well, then the twenty dollar fee). I said I had the cash receipt, but he just took care of it. I'm sure if it's a bigger charge, they may require a receipt. We made sure to get one at every plaza. We passed through a couple in WV and a couple in FL. Out of the round trip, only once did the transponder read, which didn't make sense. But it was easily taken care of.
 

I got a letter in the mail from TX tolls saying the rental car tag I had was on their records for certain toll booths on dates and times during my rental of that vehicle. I had picked up the car in St. Louis & stayed in MO for the duration of my rental. I provided receipts from my activity in MO those dates & they (toll authority) removed the charges from me.
