Anyone been to the Toledo Sports Arena? We may be going there in January and I've never been before. Is it in a safe part of town? Any good hotels nearby? Yahoo says the Radisson on Summitt Street is the closest hotel. Radisson's are usually nice so I'm not too worried about that.

Just wondering if we have any Toledo DISers that could help me out. ;) Thanks in advance if anyone has any info.

HI!

My Dh grew up in Toledo and both him & I went to college near there (Bowling Green). He was also a hockey player for the team that plays at the Toledo Arena. It is located just across a bridge from downtown. There are some nice hotels downtown, but not a lot. Make sure you stay at one of the nicer ones (right on the river) or you will probably be in a very bad part of town. Also, if you are driving leave extra time for getting in and out of the arena parking. The area right in front of it is very well known for accidents and traffic tie ups. If you would like me to ask my hubby for some of the hotel names I would gladly do that for you. Also, there is a few nice places to eat in downtown --- one of a kind restuarants, jazz clubs, spaghetti (sp?) warehouse (family style).

Good Luck!

Sorry, I meant to add that Summitt is a safe part of downtown....

Take care.

Jen that is so cool! When did you go to BG? I graduated in 85. I was there when the hockey team won the NCAA championship in 84--although they've fallen on hard times recently.
Terri, I live right outside of Toledo. The arena itself is kind of dumpy, but there are a couple of nice hotels. The Radisson is nice, and the Wyndham hotel is right on the river. I would say if you could get a river view in either hotel it would be awesome. Also about 15 min. away is the Holiday Inn French Quarter. It's in Perrysburg where I live--a little drive, but it has a sweet indoor pool area which will be awesome if you have kids. There are several restaurants there. In all honesty Downtown Toledo is kind of dead at night, although there are some good restaurants--Jen mentioned the Spaghetti Warehouse, and Frickers by the new baseball stadium is good as well and they are in walking distance. But in January I don't know if you want to walk anyhow.
What are you thinking of coming to see?

Jen & Robin...thanks for the information!!! :D

We may be going to see a concert (emphasis on "may" because we're supposed to be getting tickets through a friend of a friend...you know how that can go). I tried to get tickets to a show here but they sold out in 43 minutes!! :earseek: A friend heard me complaining on missing out :p and said "Oh, my daughter is friends with his manager...I'll get you tickets". I sort of thought "yeah right" but today she comes to me and says he doesn't have any guest tickets left for Saginaw, but we can go to Toledo if we'd like. Sooooo, long story short, I'm tenatively planning to go to Toledo, but I won't make a hotel reservation until I have actual tickets in my hand. ;) In any case, it sure is nice of her to try to get us any at all!! ::yes::

So far it looks like the Raddison on Summitt is where we'll stay. They have rooms for $69 a night and that is pretty good.

Thanks again for your help and information. I really appreciate it!!! ;)

Wow, someone that sells out that fast is coming HERE? That doesn't happen very often. The sports arena, BTW, is almost always general admission.

WOW Small world!

I had a house on Mulberry St in Perrysburg before we move here to South Carolina, My DH was placed in an intership here after BG -- no choice about were we would go, but it isn't so bad either. I was going to suggest the French Quarters but I didn't want her driving through downtown after dark and getting too lost trying to find a freeway onramp!

I went to BYU for my first degree and the BG for my second, graduating in 92. My dh grew up in Toledo (St. Francis and the Cardinal Stritch HS's). Boy do I miss Perrysburg though. We visit once a year in June when we go up to see my in-laws. They live in the old Polish area and all seem to work at Libbey Glass. As a matter of fact the only place I really have my hair cut and styled each year is still in Perrysburg (Shamas I think it is called now).

Enjoy the snow!
