Does anyone have any experience with Tokyo Disney? We are planning a trip and I was wondering if they have the same system as they do in WDW and DL?

I haven't been to Tokyo Disney, but we did go to Hong Kong Disney in Aug 2012, and I'm guessing that the rules would be similar. Of course, this was before the North American rules changed, but we had no problem getting a GAC to use a stroller as a wheelchair for my daughter. I did take our WDW GAC from the previous year with us, but I think the fact that my almost 9 year old was riding in a large medical stroller in a part of the world where only very young children ride in strollers helped, too. We did have to renew the GAC on the second day and when we did that, they took the previous GAC from us and destroyed it.

For us, getting the GAC was an easy process, but I worried about it before we went since I wasn't able to find out anything about how GACs worked there and if they were even issued. Hopefully, you'll have the same experience that we did.

Thanks! Was there a language issue explaining your needs?

I wouldn't expect Disney to have the same DAS system in place in any other country, as it is basically designed to U.S. laws which would not pertain in another country. As to what system is in place and what accommodations are offered, and possible documentation required, that may all vary depending on the accommodation(s) you need and the laws in the country you are visiting. I haven't read anything specific to Tokyo, but I believe in the US and Europe there is documentation required for disability assistance.

Enjoy your vacation!

for Tokyo there could be. HK is/was a primarily English speaking island until Great Britain gave it back.

while most Japanese have taken years of English lessons, they actually do not speak it very well. the whole alphabet issue( no ells, for instance)

they understand far better than they speak but many can be afraid to speak for fear of embarrassing themselves. and uhhm, we don't help with our accents, our colloquialisms/local slang and general inability to speak proper English ourselves.

That being said, we never had too much problem making our needs known.

I am at TDR right now, and found getting a GAC for my DD6 extremely easy. I did not run into any language barriers, and did not need to explain her needs in great detail at all. I briefly described her situation and said she usually gets a GAC when visiting DLR and they gave her one with no question. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about it!
