and why? I see one is hibachi style, and one is not? am I correct? and am I right that both are included on the DDP? Just curious if one is better than the other.

TIA

I know Tapen Edo is on the DDP..Not sure about Tokyo dining :(

The restaurants are located in the same building. Tokyo dining is in a small dining room where the waitress takes your order and brings you the food (Same as all table service restaurants)

Tapen Edo offers habachi style as you said and the show is really good most of the time. I have heard that the food is prepared exactly the same in both restaurants (I believe that Tokyo dining has more option on their menu)

Truthfully it comes down to

1. Do you mind eating with other families? (Tapen edo you will be sat with other families)

2. Do you care to see the food show? (I do know that Tapen edo is typically longer meal with the show...not for someone in a hurry)

3. Young kids in your group may be scared of fire. (This will likely make your meal less fun if the fire makes your child cry)

(If you are familiar with SHOGUN it is similar to dining vs. grill seating)

It depends. Teppan Edo is better for kids because it has the show. The kids don't have a lot of item to choose from, either fried or grill entres, rice and vegtables plus mandarin a mandarin orange cup If you have been to a Bennihana you will know what it is like. You site bar style along the grill, so if you are a big group it is only ok for talking. The end people of you group may sit next to someone, although one could be at the end seat.

Tokyo Dining is very nice as well. No show so not as fun for kids. The menu offers a little more still, Japanese and not much for kids. (Don't think because you kid likes Chinese they will be fine here, no sweet and sour pork for example) A few table have a great view.

I prefer Teppan Edo because I love hibatchi. :lovestruc

If you have kids they will definitely love the show they put on. So will you!

I'm not sure about the DDP because I have never been on it before.

Teppan Edo. Food was great. "show" was lots of fun. The kids asked to go back. :) Good luck deciding.

I prefer Teppan Edo, it's one of my favorite restaurants on property. Even though I have 5 Teppan style restaurants in close proximity to home, I still like to go there at WDW. The show totally depends on your chef, some are more entertaining than others.

One thing, you can't really get Sushi at Teppan Edo, they have a limited selection and I don't believe that people on the DDP can order them. Tokyo Dining has sushi that you can order as an entree or a la carte. The Shrimp Tempura and Chicken Cutlet are both very good there. Your kids will need to like Japanese Food if they eat there.

Teppan grills are for the gaijin even in Japan. Tokyo dining is a bit more authentic, but still Americanized (as are most World Showcase places). Teppan is a bit more of a spectacle, Tokyo is a little more adult/sophisticated.

Hi! We have tried both (DH and I are NOT picky eaters-we are equal opportunity when it comes to food). That being said we like Teppan Edo. Both dining experiences, while housed in the same building are very different experiences. If you are making your decision based on food taste-Teppan Edo is better IMHO. We would most likely not do Tokyo Dining again.

Have fun!

great info!! thank you all so much! for some reason I always thought Tokyo Dining was NOT on the ddp... am i kinda right? or has it always been on there?

Yes, Tokyo Dining is on the dining plan. I have never been to Tepan Edo, but I would never go back to Tokyo dining. The food was not good at all.

Tokyo Dining is definately on the dining plan. Most of the sushi is not available on the DDP, only a couple of sushi options. Your server will show you what you can get. We have eaten there 2 years in a row and are going back again in September... we love it. It is very relaxing, the service is outstanding, and it has amazing views of World Showcase.

I did love the idea of a window seat at Tokyo! looked so pretty! but i think the kids would get a kick out Hibachi!

We had an AMAZING meal at Teppan Edo last Friday night. I had reservations at Chefs de France, but we decided at the last minute to cancel. We did a walk-up at TE with a thirty minute wait...or thirty minute shopping trip downstairs, so it really wasn't bad! We ate there last year and it was great, but this year was even better. Seated with a great family, had a great chef, the whole experience was wonderful.
