Hello all!

Just dined for the first time this evening at Tokyo Dining in the Japan Pavilion. I must say that this food is horrible at best and SEVERELY overpriced. I was very disappointed in this restaurant as well as the rude cast members at the host stand.

Stay clear.

....uh oh, now I will think twice before booking there. My DS absolutely LOVES sushi/sashimi and I narrowed it down to Tokyo Dining and Teppan Edo. Any word on that one ?

:confused3 We loved it. Thought the food was fantastic- (overpriced but what isn't at disney) We are from NY and have had our share of Sushi.

Sorry you had a bad experience. Our waitress was great and I thought that Manager kept them all in line(it was actually funny to see) We enjoyed it very much and it's on the must do list again this trip.

Wow! Sorry to hear that. We Love it there. It is a must do every trip for us. It's good food & fun. Wouldn't miss it.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience - we dined there in October and had a good meal with good service. Not the best sushi we've ever had in our lives but certainly very tasty and we thought they had a nice selection to choose from.

What did the Cast Members at the host stand do that you considered rude?

I ate there last February and it was the best meal on the trip. The wait staff was fantastic!

Sorry that you had a bad experience. What exactly was wrong?

We normally don't do Chinese or Japanese dining while on vacation because we have a ton of great ones where we live, so its kids of boring to us. Would like to know what is so bad about it?

Sorry to hear you had a bad time- what did the cast member do?

we have eaten there at least 8 times and never had a problem and we have ressies for this Saturday- we love it:)
We have always enjoyed the food and Service has been wonderful.

we are not fancy eating place people:) Victoria & Alberts is fancy eating to us :)
but we find it not to be terribly too expensive- I guess it depends on what everyone considers expensive

I have heard complaints there about white rice vs. fried rice but fried rice is Chinese not Japanese-

again sorry you had a bad time there

Sorry you didn't enjoy it. We really enjoyed our lunch there in September, and the service was some of the best we experienced all trip.

I didn't think service was an issue at all. I was less than impressed with the restaurant for my own reasons (just didn't measure up to what I can get here in lil ol Rochester!)

Food wasn't horrible by any measure when I went. Not OMG spectacular, but no where near horrible.

I also don't think it was overpriced. Certainly not for Disney.

Can you give more specific examples? What you're saying paints a very broad stroke, so it's hard to sympathsize when I've had such a drastic different experience...again, not saying this is the best restaurant on property, far from it. But I don't think it was horrible.

For someone asking about Tepan Edo v. Tokyo Dining, you'll get the same sushi menu at either location. Kona, California Grill, and there's a place at the Swan also do sushi. I did a review (with pictures) if you care to read that...link in my siggie...on Tokyo Dining.

We ate there for lunch in January and I thought it was pretty good. The tempura was light and perfect, and the sushi was decent, as was the sashimi. The service was STELLAR and they brought me out a free piece of ginger/chocolate cake [which was weird all together, but good when we split into a ginger cake and a chocolate mousse] for my birthday. If you are looking for a "shovel it in til your pants pop open" kind of place, then no, this is not it. The portions are modest by Disney standards, but I thought they were perfect for a late lunch at Epcot, where we tend to snack late anyway.

One of our favorites... good sushi, nice tempura and we love the green tea pudding :cloud9: We've found the service to be very good and if you are lucky enough to score a table in front, the view is wonderful! :goodvibes

Which just goes to show, you can't judge your experience by what others say... for those who haven't been, I definitely wouldn't change my ressie... go and form your own opinion... I believe you will find this place has lots of fans. :thumbsup2

I have to side with the folks who have had good experiences at Tokyo Dining; I did too.
So many things can affect the way someone treats you, or how you perceive you're being treated. Perhaps there was something of a cultural conflict, something lost in translation? Who's to say? But I wouldn't condemn a restaurant for one bad experience -- we all have bad days.

I can understand the frustration at the Tokyo Dining/Teppan Edo hostess station. We found it to be very confusing, and we found a few of the cast members to be quite rude at the stand! Having said that, the wait staff was excellent. The food was ok. We will eat there again!

The OP hasn't responded with just why the host stand was rude but I can see your point. Isn't there just one stand for both places? I can understand the confusion with the guests maybe saying and wanting one thing but the hostess trying to make sure it's what everyone agrees on. I can see someone having a seating for one place but getting confused and ending up in the other place.

I guess until the OP comes back with specifics on his visit, we can only guess.

We have had wonderful experiences at TD both times we were there. The service has been very good and the view from one of the window tables is fantastic. Definitely worth waiting for.

What did the Cast Members at the host stand do that you considered rude?

Sorry for the delay... life ya know! =)

Well first off, I am a member of the Tables in Wonderland (formerly Disney Dining Experience) and when I made my reservation, the cast member told me that TD was a participating restaurant. When I arrived, as usual I mentioned my membership and the way I was told that they did not participate lacked any sort of 'Disney' to say the least. We had a couple other requests, and the way the cast member responded was just simply rude.

As for the service from our server, she was very polite and really enjoyed talking with her.

As for the food, well it simply lacked any resemblance of flavor. We had a party of 6 and everyone agreed.
