Toilet training

I'm planning a trip for May 2015 with my 2 sons, one has Mixed Expressive Receptive Language Disorder (alot of symptoms mimic autism: tantrums, non-verbal, not socially interested in others etc.) and he will be 7.

He has made great strides this past year in toilet training, but he will not have a bowel movement on the toilet. He'll hold it, etc. and it can get rather "messy".

For those of you that have this issue, do you take them to the Baby Care Centers? A regular stall (I'm not sure that would work)?

If you need to lay him down, I would suggest First Aid.
There is one in each park and they have cots where he would be able to lie down.

Let them know what you need - they have some rooms with low cots, some with higher tables and may have some adjustable height ones. Some of the rooms are more for resting, so they don't have a sink.

If he can stand for changing, your options are the Companion Restrooms or the handicapped stalls in regular restrooms.
Two things to be aware of though
- the toilets in Companion Restrooms and handicapped stalls are higher than 'regular' toilets and his feet will probably not reach the ground if he sits on the toilet
- all the Companion Restrooms have sinks, but only some of the handicapped bathroom stalls have sinks.

I second the First Aid idea and the reminder about higher toilets in handicapped stalls for younger kids

I don't know if this is an issue or not but even if around home he is wearing regular underwear I had my DD wear a pull-up overnight diaper when I expected to have issues while traveling. DD had accidents on our trip up through the time she was 9. It saved us a lot of stress to say we know she wears big girl pants at home, but sometimes you can't get to the bathroom here as fast so just in case... then she also had a small backpack or purse with a very thin cloth spare outfit.

We used the companion rest rooms..they worked fine and lots more than the first aid station. I cannot imagine going that far. Our son has CP and is not toilet trained. He is a big 7 year old. We also love the Abri-flex diapers in xs..they held plenty and just like a soft pull-up. DS used bathroom with Dad when possible and companion when needed. Much easier than when he is with me and we are in areas less accommodating. The site my pool pal had swim diapers his size too.

We used the companion restrooms and abri-flex pull up type diapers. We got a swim diaper too from a special needs site. Worked great for us.
