This is really wierd. My baby toe has been hurting for a few days now. I wasnt really sure where the pain was coming from. Last night I finally noticed a blister appeared on the top of it. Ok, so its a blister, no big deal. So, I thought that was it.

After my jog this morning I was in severe pain(I have a a high tolerance for pain, and this is BAD!) Now Im noticing a bruise all around the toe nail. I can barely walk. I dont remember banging it or anything that would have caused this bruise.

Has anyone ever had anything like this and what did you do for it. Help! Im in agony! Thanks for any advice.

maybe a quick call to your pcp and see what he says......how about putting it in warm water and letting it soak too........you could have an ingrown nail or a piece of splinter .....or anything like this.......

sounds like an ingrown nail i have had them on both big toes on both feet very painful
I had surgry to remove one and have surgery scheduled to remove the other
They numb your toes and either cut down the sides of your nail and acid the root or will reomove the nail completely and then have you come back when it starts to grow in again months later and do the acid stuff then
its not very painful to have done better than walking around with a nial growing out the side of your foot
call a podiatrist asap
good luck

Ewww, this sounds like fun. Now Im wishing I did just bang it somewhere. ;)

You mentioned running, I'm not sure if this applies to you, but it I had this a couple years ago.

It's called runner's toe or black toe, and basically the nail bed gets black and blue and painful. Mine started after comeing back from WDW and just got worse. It turned out my shoes were causing it

this is from Trail Runner Magazine

Black toe (a), sometimes referred to as "runner's toe," occurs when the nail is compressed or becomes separated from the nail bed (the sensitive area just under the nail) and blood or fluid collects in the space.

Fix: If there's no pain, simply wait for the nail to either grow out or fall off. Otherwise, a podiatrist can drain the blood or fluid and alleviate the discomfort almost immediately.

Prevent: Wear trail shoes that fit. Julien, who's been trail running for more than 10 years, suggests at least a quarter-inch of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoe. And don't forget to try on shoes with the socks you intend to wear during your runs.

I don't think what you have have is an ingrown toenail. I think its more likely to be what the last poster mentioned. I've had a couple of infected ingrown toenails this year and none of them looked like what you're describing.

If it is an ingrown toenail you can try putting Vick's VapORub on it. That will take care of the infection and pull the nail out of the bed painlessly, though it'll take a few days. (This really does work BTW)

But I think you should go see your doc asap. and get a referral for a Podiatrist if you need 1. Good luck
