Do you know if most hotels offer the option of bed Rails? We are at SOG and I can't get through to find this out (trying again today). What other options do you have for a two year old who is still in a crib but really doesn't sleep in a packnplay

Most resorts offer bed rails for the little ones. We have done the bed rails thing as well as surrounding my little one with pillows. Both worked fine for us and let me tell you she used to take up a lot of real eastate when she slept. Actually both my girls took up a lot of space.......You should be able to get through to the front desk at the hotel your staying at and reserve the bed rail if they still offer them.

We requested a bed rail at POFQ for DS when he was 3. It was on the reservation and I asked again at check-in. When we got to the room, it wasn't there so I called the front desk again and it was brought to us in less than 10 minutes.

DS was in a "big bed" at the time, but he is such a deep sleeper I worried about him in a unfamiliar bed. It worked out great.

we have stayed at SOG and have gotten bed rails before. Just tell them at check-in and they will deliver them to your room.

I just called yesterday and added bed rails as a special request to my reservation. They also have the small portable cribs, about the size of a pack n play.

One tip I read on here somewhere - make sure the bed rails are there when you check in. If not, wait for them. If they say they will bring them later you might get back after a long day and be waiting quite some time for somebody to bring them, when the toddler is already way too tired.

Just something to think about.... After we returned from WDW with GS (2 yrs old) he would not sleep in his crib anymore, he wanted a big bed (preferably with someone else sleeping w/him...) So if possible have the toddler sleep alone, otherwise you're going to have a habit to break when you return!

I don't know how much your toddler needs the bed rails, but they weren't very strong. My DD at the time we went really needed the bed rails, she would sleep up against them at home. At home, our bed rails connected underneath the bed so once tightened, would not budge. The ones at POFQ were separate and once she leaned up against them in her sleep, they would push out.

Not a big deal, she was fine, but it could have posed a problem. just FYI.

Good idea!

When my oldest was 3 we just put him in the hotel bed. He fell out and hit his head on the end table corner. No real damage to him, but lots of blood and screaming! Not sure why we didn't think of asking for bedrails!

I would also recommend having a 'bed bootcamp'. It worked with our then 9-month (maybe 6) old, showing him how to approach the edge of a bed. We spent half a day with him, laying on the bed, showing him how to get off a bed.

We were so happy when we went to a hotel a few months later, at a Westin with big tall beds, and he got off the bed feet first. :) He wasn't even a year. :)

Then again, we have a family bed so he has ALWAYS slept in a bed, it's nothing new to him.

Well, that's a good reason to show your 2 year old what being on a bed is all about, showing him the ropes, so to speak, so it isn't a big surprise that he's likely to forget about while sleeping.

Hi there! We have always had the option of bed rails when we travel with our 2 toddlers and they deliver them RIGHT AWAY. Last year, we did not bother to get them and used the comforter from both beds to put them on either side of the bed :) Like a big barrier of sorts.

We tried a trip to WDW when our DS was in a crib at home, thinking he would sleep in a regular bed with bedrails. What a sleepless night, and not a good way to start our first day.

The resort recommended A Baby's Best Friend for a full crib, and we have been using them ever since. They were awesome to work with, the crib and bedding were very clean and fresh, and what a difference the rest of our trip. :cheer2:

I highly recommend them. www.abbf.com They have bedrails and other things, too.

I think all resorts have bedrails, just ask for them before you check-in and then again when you actually check-in.

Some resorts actually have full size cribs available. They don't have many so they are hard to come by but they are there. There are some threads on here where people have pictures of them.

The only "full" cribs I have seen at the resorts or seen pictures on these threads are the metal 'infirmary' style, which is not really full size. They are about 1/2 the size, and have a 1" thick pack n play style mattress, which is why I call them a glorified pack n play. That's fine if one's child can use that and sleep well; mine never did. We also have used ABBF numerous times and are very pleased like the other poster. :thumbsup2

I tell this mainly to the first-timers going to WDW. My first experience was finding the pack-n-play-in-every-room and then the infirmary-style crib experience, after being assured several times by different reservationists that the resorts had full cribs. We found ABBF the next day and have been happy ever since. :cool1: :cheer2:

Thanks Waggy182 for correcting on the full size crib. We asked for one during our May trip but they were all out. The only time I ever saw them were on the threads here, so I didn't have a 1st hand account about it.

What bedrails do you have at home? Mine are One Step Ahead, and they are actually portable and fold up with a little carry case. We brought them to WDW once. Just something to consider- are yours also portable?

Good to read this thread! My son is going to be three when we go and he is still sleep in a crib here at home. We are planning to teach him how to sleep in a bed (especially for the trip) but I was thinking about either getting bed rails or renting a crib. Never thought of pillows too!

I would definately agree with putting pillows around the bedrail. When my DD13 was 20 months old we had a terrible accident! We were staying at POR, and when I turned my back for a minute she started jumping on the bed, holding on to the railing. Somehow her hands slipped and her chin slammed on down to it, making her teeth jam into her tongue. The bleeding was awful, though she ended up fine I was extremely close to having to call the emergency room.

Just a word of caution!
