Toddlers Contained in a Stroller

Sorry, didn't know how else to word this question. We are going to WDW very soon. My daughter can walk BUT definitely not at the stage where she is safe to walk in a crowd at all. She also refuses to hold my hand. She is 16 months old. I am concerned about her getting agitated in the stroller for so long. We will be taking a mid day break. Are there any recommended places at any of the parks to allow my daughter to get out of the stroller and walk? (We will be visiting all 4 parks at WDW). Do these baby care stations have room to hang out for a while and let my daughter move?

Sixteen months old? Seriously? Lock that girl down. I took my 5 and 2 year olds and put them in a sit and stand. There are far too many people to let a 16-month old walk freely. She'll get stomped on. While I try to let nothing bother me in WDW, you'll find international tour groups, over-zealous families and all types at Disney and they're not always as conscientious of small children as they should be.

That said, a trip to any of the WDW parks is an awful lot of walking for a little one. They get tuckered out. They'll walk too slowly.

There are a few places in the parks where you can let a toddler roam a little on her own. I know that Pooh's Playful Spot in MK is gone and so is the Chip and Dale area that was in Toontown Fair, but I'm fairly sure there's others. I just need to look it up.

The baby care areas do have open room to free the kids for a bit, but there are also plenty of areas in the parks.

MK: The new interactive line at Winnie the Pooh is fantastic, Tom Sawyer Island has plenty of room for them to walk and is limited on the crowds (Toontown had a great play area)

Epcot: Usually inside Innoventions is not overly crowded, the train gardens near Germany, Imagination has a great play area inside, and really most of the time it isn't too crowded to let them walk around the World Showcase.

AK: The garden areas at the front are great for small walkers, the area near Lion King, the walking tours of Asia and Africa and the carnival area of Dinoland are good areas for some walking. And of course, the Boneyard is a fantastic play area.

HS: Honey I shrunk the kids playground is great and you can usually safely have them walking in the "backlot" areas where all the cityscapes are.

I am not referring to letting her walk freely where crowds are. I would never let her "walk" at WDW either. Let me rephrase, I am talking about a place where we can let our little ones stretch that is for small children.

In Frontierland, under the railroad tressle, there is a small playspace that is one of our favorite resting areas for DD. It has a small slide (perfect for a 16 month old) and a playhouse to walk/climb through. The flooring is also rubber playground padding, however it will scrape if one falls and skins an arm or knee. I love it, it's totally in the shade and great place for Mom or Dad to watch the littl eone whiel the other rides Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Splash Mountain.

Also, Fantasyland is a good area to let a toddler out of a stroller and walk. The ridea are pretty close together (unless you plan on riding Small World after Pooh which are on opposite ends), but a little one can walk through while holding a grown-ups hand. Usually we park our stroller at Philharmagic and walk around Fantasyland.

Also there are times, I will find a bench somewhee and just sit. I'll let DD enjoy a snack and let her out of her stroller to be able to play and explore around me. She's 3 now, but when she was younger (her first trip was at 15 months), I kept an eye on her and controlled her rein. We have a joke in our family that when she was 22 months, she was so excited to go beyond 10 steps and throw somethign in a trash can. Our joke was, forget the rides at Disney, it's the trash cans that take center stage.

Yes that great little play area down the steps next to Splash is wonderful for small kids and a perfect toddler size!!! There are also fountains outside of Captain EO that are awesome and a toddler would find very fun (especially if you are going in the hot weather.)
