Toddlers and Tiaras

On a tangent, I read online that JonBenet's dad is getting remarried. His wife passed about 5 years ago from ovarian cancer.

What stunned me....the article said that if she were alive, JonBenet would have turned 21 years old on August 6. :( Doesn't seem like that much time could have passed.... :(

Wow.

I never watch this show, but someone got sucked into it last night while surfing (also got to see the Property Virgins episode with a dis'er on it).

And I couldn't help but think of JonBenet when the dad of Paisley made his very strong comments about how much he dislikes the pageants... I felt so bad for him when he concluded with "but I don't want to fight with my wife".

I'd love to go to a pageant and see this in person. Not something I'd do with my daughter, but I enjoy the whole "pageantry" of these glitz pageants.

I haven't seen the show and don't know *anything* about pageants. However, I think it's possible that there was a little asterisk on the sign-up form that said "we reserve the right to cancel/combine categories if a category's registration does not reach a minimum level" I've seen that happen at other age-divided activities. Perhaps when they signed up, there were supposed to be several age categories, but then they arrived, they'd all been lumped into one.

you could be onto something. The only thing I've signed my kids up for is basketball and soccer. I have serious issues with dressing my children up like show ponies to put money in my pocket. There was actually a mom on a few weeks ago that gave her child sugar cubes to keep her energized and happy. Did you guys see last weeks show? The little girl whispered to her mom, "I DON'T LIKE YOU" I found it on youtube. Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dFB9KLWVX8

And she called them "dance cookies"

Did anybody watch the episode with Brock? I found it odd that his mother said his father completely supported Brock participating in pageants but he was never seen on the entire episode.:confused3

I liked Brock! He was a great kid. Alot of parents say that they are in agreement with the their spouse, but we rarely see the other parent. Last night we saw some dads who both were against the pagent world. I believe one said he's doing it because he doesn't want to get into trouble with the wife.

That was just weird, she seemed to hate the Mom and only wanted to be around her Aunt. The sugar cubes were just odd as well, they were carrying around a ziploc baggie of them at the pageant. I felt bad for the daughter of the single mom, who wanted to gymnastics not pageants but her mom chose pageants for her and made her stop gymnastics so she wouldn't have to have her dresses fitted.

I have noticed this is common. Since the little ones don't have time for a nap, they give them candy to keep them going. While most people have the bag of candy, at least this mom was more straight forward that she was loading her up on sugar. ;)

I remember the episode! I felt so sorry for the mom who was watching her daufhter cry for her aunt. The mom looked like she wanted to burst out crying but she held it together because of the cameras. The little girl who was an amazing at gymnastics the mom wanted her in the pageants. It was really rather sad. I believe she froze on stage during her talent.

The sugar is better than the one who gave her kid an energy drink. Those things make me feel like my heart is coming out of my chest; I can't imagine what it makes a 3 year old feel like.

My son was in pageants when he was a baby/toddler(we only did one company though, so a local pageant, a state pageant and an international pageant grom the came company) I know everything happened between 11 and 4 and I always thought it was weird that they wouldn't do little ones between 9-11, then bigger kids/teens from 11-1, so the little guys could get a nap. The timing makes for a lot of whiny toddlers and babies who are sound asleep on stage. I would never have dreamed of giving my son candy or soda to keep him awake. We just played with him and kept him too busy to think about sleep.

Okay, I finally caught up and watched the "Logan/Paisley" show. Wow, there are some moms with unfulfilled aspirations for themselves out there...I have to say, every show there's a name or two that surprises me. When my friends and I were all naming babies it was variations of Sarah, Matthew, Benjamin, Madelyn, Bethany -- so Heaven, Paisley, Eden, etc. all sound a little affected to me -- but perhaps that's just because I'm not up on the hot baby names right now. It does seem that even if it's a name I've heard, it has some interesting spelling -- these kids are never getting personalized stuff from the theme park unless they have it custom-made!

Maria :upsidedow

Paisley was an odd name. I figured maybe her parents met at a Brad Paisley concert or something.

I actually laughed at this, then realized my youngest daughter is named Chesney. :rotfl:

I thought Paisley was probably from the design element, not the singer.

I know a Chesney. :) It was actually the mom's maiden name.

Just when I thought this show couldn't get any worse, tonight's episode came on. Carly's mom takes the cake (and it's hysterical that they caught her on tape whispering). Kittens anyone? Not sure if that whole Carley/Darla thing isn't a sign of Sybil to come.

Holy CoWWWWWWW.....Just the idea of her "split personality" freaked me out! Carly, Darly.......what???!!!!!

What about the other mother? My "frozen chosen".

That woman has to be the worst so far. Did you see her hissing threats through clenched teeth at that poor child? She's abusive.

And what was that quote at the end? "We are humble people and don't expect more than we deserve." IIRC.

oh and all the garbage about how "we" are both so critical. No, Carly isn't critical, YOU are so critical.

She needs to be slapped.

That child needs to hide her winnings away to save for her inevitable therapy sessions.

OMG - I am like 5 mins. into this episode and Carley's mother is unbelievable with her threats!

And what is up with that little girl in the pink dress (Alessondra) having a bustline? Is it just the way the pink dress is cut or am I just seeing things?

OK - now I'm further into the show and Carley's mom is just insane!!! Poor Carley is never going to be good enough for her mom.
