Our 2-year old DS sleeps on a twin-size mattress on the floor of his room, and for the most part he stays on the mattress. We are staying in 1-bedroom DVC rooms for our upcoming trip, and our plan was to have him sleep on the pull-out couch/bed. I don't think bedrails would work on those, so we were thinking of just putting pillows on the floor "just in case." Any other ideas? Should we try to block the edge of the bed with chairs?

Our older son was fine on a sleeper sofa whenever we stayed overnight, even when he was still sleeping in a crib at 3 yrs. (Don't judge-he never tried to climb out and I had a newborn.) We would put chairs or an ottoman by one side of the bed just in case. The mattresses seem to sag a bit and hold them in.

another idea is to bring a blowup toddler bed that goes on the floor. that would be closer to what the child is used to at home and should fit in a suitcase for travel

When we were last there we found there was an abundance of pillows and cushions so we put them on the floor as you suggest. Our DS never rolled off and he is a wriggler in his sleep, you can tuck the sheets in quite well. It wasn't a huge drop like a normal bed if he did fall off, which he liked to do during the day as rolling off on the pillows was just as much fun as a theme park apparently :mic:

We got bed rails from the front desk and used them on the sofa bed for our 5 year olds. Looked funky but it worked. Just ask the front desk. The deluxe resorts also have those tube like pillows, so you could use that too.

We just created a little barrier around DD at that age with pillows. You can also use pool noodles under the sheet. Or get the bedrails. I think the last option would be the easiest for your peace of mind.

We do pillows on either side as an extra precaution when sleeping somewhere new, if he wriggles he generally stops at the pillows. We also put a pillow on the floor beside the bed in case he rolls off. He was on a mattress on the floor for a bit, and at 2.5 he moved to a twin bed. If hetends to stay on the mattress, the extra foot to the floor shouldn't make a difference, he'll most likely still stay put!
