Our trip in February will be our first with our son. He will be almost 17 months old. I am thinking we may need to get a Pack n Play for the hotel room for him to sleep in.

What do you guys do for sleeping arrangements with toddlers?

(I will NOT be renting a crib at the hotel because it's $10 a night. I can get a Pack n Play for $40.)

When ours were little we always brought along our pack n play. It would sometimes be a tight squeeze but much better than renting a crib from the hotel. We always found those to be outdated and not always safe looking. And we also questioned how clean they might or might not be!

We've been twice with our toddler, once at 14 months and once at 2 years, and I always let her sleep with me. My husband would have a bed and DD and I had one. DH liked having a bed all to himself for once and DD loves being able to sleep with mommy.

When DD was 2 and under, she stayed in a Pack n Play when we were in hotels. The "mattress" isn't exactly plush in those things, but they make a thicker quilted sheet for them (i got a velour knew but they had others that were just cotton) to make it a little more comfy.

The other options are the sofa bed (if your room has one) or sharing a bed. I kind of miss the pack n play stage now that my DD is older. She can find the exact center of any bed, so sharing a bed with her with her is no fun. At least she dies t complain about sofa beds or rollaways...yet.

If your flying check your airline rules. I know a lot let you gate check the stroller and take an item as baggage for a baby for free (in this case could be your pack and play!) If your driving then even easier!

Have a magical time!

Oh, I don't plan on lugging a pack n play on the play or paying to check it. We'll just order one from walmart.com for $40 and have it shipped site to store or to my MIL or maybe even the hotel, if possible. We already have enough stuff to haul through the airport (bags, car seat, stroller.) It just sucks that we'll basically throw it away after our trip. But it's better than spending $80 to rent a grimy hotel crib.

We will have a "parlor suite" at Desert Inn and it does have a sofa bed in one room but I'm think we'd need some sort of bed rails for it for him.

I suppose we may have to just wait until the trip is closer and see how things are going with him at the time.

I was just thinking maybe there was some better option I hadn't thought of or something.

We put our toddler in bed with me. I've heard there are inflatable rails you can get or some people roll up towels and put them under the sheet to form a barrier so they can't roll off.

You can also put a pool noodle under the fitted sheet to act as a rail. If you share a bed, maybe put another noodle in the middle to define their space.

Pack and Play worked great for us in February - just remember to bring a couple of extra baby blankets since the bottoms could use some additional comfort. We also brought our noise machine and night light, so there were sights and sounds from home.

For our 2yo we bought a toddler cot that folds out like a canvas lawn chair. It was perfect because hotel beds were too high for him.

Most of the hotels or condos we stayed at when our kids were that age had pack n plays available, so we used that. I don't recall ever being charged. Many hotels say they have cribs but they really have PnPs.

I would prefer to pay a fee than deal with one on the plane in addition to carseats, stroller and luggage. Not worth the hassle to me.

Another option is a PeaPod, which folds up and could fit in a suitcase. We have one but my kids never really stayed in it.

We brought our Pack N Play for our first trip, then used the ones provided by the Embassy on subsequent trips and brought our own sheet.

Now that our daughter is too big for the PNP, we've been bringing a Shrunks inflatable toddler bed that has worked extremely well for us.

We've used a Shrunk's Toddler bed since my granddaughter was 15 mos old. It folds down fairly small and she loved having her own bed.

Well, as I said...our hotel charges $10 a night. And I will NOT bring a PnP on the plane. I will have one shipped to our destination and just leave it there when we leave. It would save us $40.

I saw that toddler bed and have considered that as well if our son is too big or unwilling to sleep in a PnP at that age. I wish I'd purchased it when I saw it for $50. Last I checked it was a bit more. Grr.

Oh, and him sleeping our bed is just not an option in my world. Ha!

In October we took a family trip to DL and the 3 girls slept in two beds in the living room/kitchen. Youngest was almost 3 at the time. She ended up waking up before everyone else, opening the room door and headed down the hall of the hotel. Older DD got to her right before she went out the front door of the hotel into the parking lot. AAAAACK!!! Needless to say, that was the last night DD3 slept in her own bed and we put a chair in front of the door. We have stayed at this hotel more than 20 times in the past and every room we were in had a latch higher up on the door so it couldn't be opened by housekeeping OR a wee tot but this room didn't. Never in my life would have thought she could open that super heavy wood door!

Moral of the story, I wish I had brought her pack n play!! HAHAHA

Same thing happened to me! I saw it when it was quite cheap and when it was time to purchase, it had gone way up. I ended up holding off and set up a price tracker on CamelCamelCamel and waited until it went back down before purchasing.

I'm a lurker and it looks like I need one more post to add a link, so I'll put it up next in case you'd like to do the same & be notified once the price comes back down.

Yeah...I thought about that, actually. He will be quite young and it's not like the hotel room is baby/toddler-proofed. I could just see myself waking up to him getting into the fridge, playing with the microwave, or something. Ha!

Didn't see that part until later, sorry. I still probably wouldn't buy one just to leave it there, just feels wasteful to me personally. Have you checked baby gear rental places? I know there are several in major cities that rent out gear and it may be cheaper and nicer than the hotel or the $40 version.

I concur with others to wait until you are near the trip to make a final decision. My kids went from crib to bed pretty quickly around that age so he may be ready to go in a bed. We did the pool noodle thing at home too, or even a small bed rail may be easy to pack.

ETA: In terms of toddler proofing, we always bring a roll of Duct tape when we travel. Works to cover outlets, tape cabinets shut, and do whatever else you need to toddler proof a room.

From the time our DS was about a year old, I just always had him sleep in bed with us. We always get a king, and he sleeps between my DH and I to keep him from falling off the bed. He is so exhausted from the parks that he's sleeping much longer than at home.
