When I go to get my haircut, I usually tell the girl to please leave it long enough so I can put it in a ponytail and don't make me look like a pumpkin--and she always does a great job. I have no clue what style would look good one me etc. I leave it in the hands of professionals.

Now, we've gotten the boys haircut 3 times (two different kid centric spots), and they don't let me get away with that kind of indecision. The first two cuts, I finally just said, keep it the same shape, but shorten it up. The third time I said a particular style, but their hair wouldn't do it (swept to one side). In all cases, they looked like shaggy ragamuffins pretty soon after each cut.

Long story short--please tell me how I should get their haircut this afternoon. I quite literally have no idea what would look cute or what would work. I need help!

Here's a recent picture of Andy.

I've only gotten my son's hair cut in a salon twice, and both times I was very unhappy with it. I just cut it at home. At first I was really afraid that he would look terrible, but I just try and not cut off a lot at one time. There was one time when I had to go fairly short because I messed up - but he's a boy, he can get away with really short hair.

I would get a haircutting kit and try to do a trim at home and see how you feel. I'm able to put on a new cartoon for him and he stays pretty still. Watch how they do it at the salon - they don't cut straight across. Instead they take a vertical group of hair and snip off the ends.

If you want to take him in, find a picture. I would say shorten up the sides and keep the top long.

What a couple of cuties! I love their hair the way it is so I would just get it trimmed if it were me. But here' s my story.

I had to laugh when I saw this title. My son is almost 4. He has curly blond hair. I call it Surfer boy hair. He always looks a little tousled.

I love the way his hair looks and make sure I tell them when the hairdresser cuts it not to cut it short!

My MIL is old school though. Last time she asked me when I was going to get his big boy hair cut (which means short, typical boy cut).

I told her "probably never." She just laughed at me.

I love his hair and it suits his face and personality.

Here' a recent pick where you can see his curls.

I would keep their hair the way you like it!

cute boys!

my son has the same cut OP. i get it trimmed at least once a month. i just bring him to the same lady that's cut my hair since i was about 10.

only thing i hate is she makes it into a little point in the back. that grows out really fast and he starts to get that little bit of a mullet starting.

thomas' hair is so fine, that i can't get her to give him a mohawk!

send my boy with my husband. My son always comes back with cut haircuts. I have tried to tell me what they do so I can take him myself and it never comes out right. They cut too much or not enough. I know...or think...they use a #3 and then scissors on top. But again, I don't get the same results.

My son can do the longer hair (like surfer or bowl cut or anything similar) he just has too much hair. So he gets a military cut but NOT a crew cut or all buzzed off.

For your child...I suggest a photograph of what you like and then telll
the stylist that is what you want. Then keep the picture. Clothing catalogues are a great source.

Ok well my guy is similar in hair and he did get a mohawk in Disney! She spiked it up with tons of gel. At home he just wears it down. He claims he is now a "bad boy"

I am going to long buzz it before school probably. That baby fine blonde hair doesn't like to do much

My 2yo ds hair looks exactly like this picture. Seriously they could be twins (although I can't see his face). We call it the surfer dude look too, and I can't bear to cut off his curls. Strangers always tell me not to cut off his curls. Some people (usually older) mistake him for a girl, which irritates dh, but I don't mind a bit!

OP, looks like he has fine hair, which IMO is hard to get to do what you want. Cute boys!

Honestly, OP, I think you could get away with not getting his hair cut yet if you wanted. It's not overly long yet. ;)

Up until February, I always just trimmed my ds's hair myself but by February he was getting to where he wouldn't sit still long enough for me and his hair was really long and thick. I actually loved his cute curls in the back but his bangs were in his eyes by that point. Plus, I was getting tired of people telling me what a "pretty little girl" I had so I finally broke down and took him to the salon. I shopped around and made sure I talked to a lot of other moms of (boy) toddlers who could recommend someone because I was really nervous about his first haircut.

He has now had his hair cut at the same salon and by the same stylist 3 times since February and I have loved it every time! And I was surprised by how well he has done for her too. She came very highly recommended by a lot of people and I can see why!

We always just have her do the same cut. She uses clippers on the back and sides but she simply just scissor cuts it on the top so that he looks like a handsome little man but still has enough hair on top of his head to keep me happy. I would never, ever go for a buzz cut with him at this age. I love his hair and wouldn't be too keen on seeing it all buzzed off.

My ds's hair looked just like this in the back (only darker) before his 1st haircut. Cute! :)

Awww, he is adorable!

try a barbershop. Cut will be cheaper and they know exactly what to do !

We usually cut Brysn's hair short in the back and sides and a little long with the bangs. I can't go with him though, he cries. He doesn't cry with Dad only me.:confused3

Tinkermommy if you cut those curls I'm going to have to hunt you down.;)

Cassie my son's looks yours but the blonde blue eye version. He loves his bink.

Just a word of warning, if you go with a "little boy" hair cut they all of the sudden lose that toddler/baby look

I second going to a barber for a good scissor over comb hair cut.

My son gets the BEST haircut at the barber shop on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. Seriously. I always tell DH when it is time for Mason's haircut that we need a Disney trip so we can get his haircut. :goodvibes

My nephew is a barber and he will tell you to take little boys to a Barber Shop for a haircut with clippers instead of a beauty shop for a haircut with scissors.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. The haircut went well, we kept the shape but cut it shorter. The stylist called it "a cute, little boy haircut" :) I haven't taken a picture yet, but I'll get one soon!
