Today's taping of "parade"..little long

CAUTION...this post does contain spoilers (if what we were told by the crew is correct) for the Christmas parade special on Christmas day....
That being said....
My DD and I attended the Christmas parade taping today at MK. It was actually a day of "Entertainment" taping (as the quite energetic CM told the crowd ). The first segment on Christmas day, we were told, will be preformed by Paris, Mandisa, Kevin, and Ace and consisted of several little parts of Christmas songs. Next they taped the finale which has Michael Bolton signing "Joy to the World" with a choir (also performed nicely...of course). They did a great job and the crowd loved it. DD and I were right up front. Singing and acting like nuts...and any TRUE Disney fan would be quite proud of us....although DH may be a little embarrased when he watches us on Christmas day if we dont end up on the cutting room floor.
They were also scheduled to have Bianca (she is 12 and won America's Got Talent I think) perform and then Emmitt Smith doing some of the Dancing with the Stars stuff.
That was supposed to be all for today. The actual parade taping is Saturday at MK and it was announced that way to everyone at MK. They said that Regis and Kelly will be there tomorrow.
I spoke with a great source (made my family grand marshals once) and she said that Beyonce Knowles was there this past Wednesday to film her performance (almost did not happen due to rain).
AND...I am sorry to say, but she also said that they have not heard anything about Johnny Depp being there and that it is a rumor. I HOPE for everyone attending that she is wrong....I still kept looking really hard for him at MK and Epcot today....no luck.

Okay, so I was being polite about Michael's performance.
No really, he is older but he did do a good job. Let me restate, we were going nuts simply because we were at the taping....NOT FOR HIM!!
We enjoyed cheering and screaming for Ace Young....HEs HOT!! And the hostess (CM crowd cheerleader person) had her eye on his brother (looks almost just like him)!!!!

Do you know when the actual parade is on t.v.? and channel? ABC, CBS or NBC? My boys would love to watch it.......

I used to think the ABC/WDW parade is live, until we saw it being filmed in 2005.

Kind of humorous. Simulated parade in a simulated fantasy environment

It is aired on ABC on Christmas Day.

From what I have been reading on the Johnny Depp forums, he has already taped his part for the parade at DL..

Lol, I used to think so too. Then one Christmas it was raining, but sunny on the parade.


Last year we were at Epcot the evening of a parade taping and bumped into one of the stars in the Mexico pavillion.

I was there yesterday too. We were 'scheduled' for the afternoon session as audience members. So when we got there, Michael Bolton was performing. We also went crazy cheering for the performance, like good audience members should. The camera looked like it was facing my way a few times... maybe I will be on TV.

We stayed to be the audience for the Bianca Ryan/Emmitt Smith part too. They did a few practice runs and then filmed the segment 4 times with different camera angles. And then they did Audience reaction shots.
"Ok everyone, act like you are seeing it for the first time, again."

It was fun, but we did wind up standing for hours. We got there at 11am and weren't finished until 3:30p.

I believe it used to be live (with segments previously filmed), many years ago. However, they had too much trouble with the weather and decided to completely tape it. As it is a 2 hour commercial for WDW, I don't think they wanted to show heavy rain or people in winter coats, hats, and gloves!!

It definitely used to be live. Our family spent a three day weekend over Christmas Day in the late 80's, and I set the VCR before we left to tape the parade. Then we went in the park unbelievably early so we could get a spot across from one of the TV cameras. It was a lot of fun, but you could only see us on screen clearly for about 5 seconds. We could tell where we were, because we dressed alike, but if you didn't know us, you wouldn't have recognized us most of the time. I understand why they don't do it that way any more, but it was a fun way to spend the morning in the park on Christmas Day.

We walked into the hub on Wednesay just as Beyonce came down the steps and started singing "Silent Night". Gorgeous voice and gorgeous dress! Anyway, it was a bit funny becasue hardly anyone was there for the crowd scene...the rain kept everyone away.

I remember seeing one of the parade years ago, probably about 10 or so-ish ... where Regis was "magicly" zapped to Alien Encounter in tomorrowland... I was astounded...the whole concept of pre-taping went over my head and my poor mother had the worst time trying to expain that Disney had NOT come up with a way to zap people places...thinking back I don't understand why I couldn't figure it out, but I was little so who knows...

Sounds like you had fun. We were there Wednesday and watched Beyonce perfom..i'm not a big fan, but she has an amazing voice. Sounds like it will be a great Christmas Day parade!!!

I am young, but I think he has a unique voice and style. He is not my most favorite, but I could listen to his CD and it be okay with me.

Honestly, I would rather see him than Beyonce.

It is worse than taping it. It's sending cleaning crew out onto the Main Street, then tell everyone to get their feet off the street, then action, the first float comes down the Main Street, film it, cut, cleaning crew back onto the Main Street again to clean up, tell everyone to get their feet off the street, then action again, now second float comes down the Main Street. Like I said - simulated parade in a simulated fantasy environment

Michael Bolton was there? From Office Space? I love that movie! I didn't realize he could sing. Very cool.
