Personally I feel really uneasy about people recommending Crown currency, I know how annoyed and disappointed people get if a ticket company has financial problems. If this company went it could mean £1,000's of spending money not just a few hundred on tickets. I just don't feel its worth the risk to send money to somewhere and tie up unregulated.
Sorry to sound so negative on a post that is trying to be helpful but I dont think its worth the risk to make a few extra Dollars.

You're not even making extra $$ when compared with using a fee-free credit card such as Post Office or Nationwide. Not only do these offer a much better guarantee of safety and security, they also give better interbank rates and you don't need to pay for what you have spent until you return from your trip. It's a no-brainer in my opinion and I completely fail to understand people who change thousands of pounds for TCs or $USD cash, especially some people here who seem to be getting their TCs/Cash now when they are not even travelling for over a year! It's mad!

For me there is no contest Nationwide CC, its saved me $100's in the last few years but unfortunatley many people can't budget with CC's they have to change money and split it into a daily allowance, I know a few people who have had financial problems due to CC spending. Financially and for security CC has got to be the way to go but it's not suitable for everyone.

Hi Wayne,

I know what you mean, I would not give Crown my money on a long term basis but I would certainly go with them I was traveling in the next couple of months and they had the best rate. I personally have a bad credit rating so I cant get a CC to use over there!

I agree we dont have a credit card either and I dont want to throw money away but crown currency look good, We are getting amrried in disney next year so any extra $ i can get to help pay for that is great. I wnat to thank the people on here for finding crown currnecy

Just been past Thomson Travel Shop - they are offering $2.047. There may be a minimum purchase requirement though, as the window sticker said $2050 = £1001

Wayneg,I know you said a Nationwide cc was fab but what was the other you suggested on another thread as i`m thinking of applying for a card.

Lloyds tsb are offering $1.02 i think my mum said it was,Personally i have been buying from marks and sparks.:cool1:

There are 2 cards for sure with no fees abroad, Nationwide and Post Office, also another I believe with no fees is the Audi Credit card. Before we got the Nationwide card we used to use Lloyds TSB but they put the fees up I think to around 3% now.

Just done a quick search here http://www.moneysupermarket.com/cards/credit_card.asp
It says Thomas Cook card also but check the T&C's

I know the no fee credit card companies are good - but don`t you have to use them abroad - there is no guarentee the rate will be high when you visit? Or can you buy $ TQ`s with them and still get the no fee rate.
Have just bought TQ`s from M&S for $2.055 to the £.

You have to take the risk of the current rate while on holiday. But since I started going to Florida 14 years ago the rate has gone up from $1.40/£1 to £2.11 today. Not many occasions you would have been worse off taking into account the interest you lose on your savings buying cash or TC's months in advance and also the lower rate you get by exchanging. The other consideration is security, cards are a lot better, as I said before I lost my wallet going to Amsterdam this year with over £500 in it, luckily got it back but could have been way out of pocket, I just know the place we eat there does not take cards, whereas everywhere takes them in US.
Personally think the rate will keep going this next year as US economy is a mess. Only time will tell which is best option but I will stick with a no fee card.
