Today was a "Bucket List" Day!

Amazing! Thanks for those images  We had plans to join our friends down to Florida in September for the final launch but alas we had to pull out due to work commitments  I am so glad you got to see a take off live...

when we where there this past year we watched a launch from SSR; sure we weren't there but it was still breathtaking. My family is full of space nuts, one of my brothers is actually named after an astronaut as his first and middle name. Back in 98 John Glenn went back into space and my now hubby and I were luck to have our first visit to WDW that year and we went to NASA so I got my brother a bunch of gear with his namesake on it. :D

It's been bittersweet that we won't be there in September but I do hope you can make it :thumbsup2 If you do take lots of pictures again for us to all see. you guys in Florida are so lucky!

I believe a "bucket list" is actually something that can be done, not a fantasy.....just sayin! :confused3

:rotfl2:Sorry Wally!

Great shots Rob! It’s funny that you mentioned this because I just started to put together a bucket list. I read two articles recently that influenced me – the first was about some show on MTV where a group of young guys do things on their bucket list. I’ve never seen the show and most of what they do seems more like stunts but it made me think that I shouldn’t wait to put together my list. The other article was about longevity and redefining old age. A woman in that article wanted to hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon but no one would go with her – they said that at 75 she was too old. Well she told her family that she was going on a trip with her seniors group and then she hopped on a bus all alone, went to the Grand Canyon, hiked to the bottom, stayed overnight, hiked back up the next day and took the bus home. She hiked it 20 more times and finally stopped when she hit her 90s. That showed me that it’s never too late. A friend and I talked about hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon but she got nervous that she couldn’t do it (no reason since we’re both healthy) so now I’m going to give her a copy of the article and push her a bit.

As I started to write my list I realized that I’ve been fortunate to do some very cool things – things that probably would have been on my list had I started earlier so I kind of added them and crossed them off already! My list is going to keep growing but here are a few things:

Hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon – I’ve seen it a few times but never hiked it.
Paris
Italy – that one will be crossed off soon!
Zip lining – not sure where yet
Volunteer for Special Olympics – yeah, that one seems easy enough but my life is pretty crazy and I can’t commit to anything right now. For some reason the Special Olympics really touches my heart.
Go back to Ireland, specifically where my ancestors are from – I’ve done some research on our family tree but hit some dead ends so I want to find out exactly where we’re from and go to those places
Club 33 (hey, have to put at least 1 Disney item on the list)

Great pics Rob! I used to love watching when we lived in Satellite Beach, i have some great night shots, its always an awesome experience watching the shuttles lift off.

Cheers to you Rob!

I wanna be cast in a remake of Barbarella in the
title role and date the brazillan soccer team!

hey we have the same bucket list......:rotfl:

I'm surprised Wally, didn't think they were your type.

but more of them - and less clothing.

Centimeters? ;)

Rob, I love your enthusiasm and support of everyone here! :teeth:

I'd like the info on the parking area please. We may use it for one of the last two. ::yes::

Thanks!

Didn't you and Paul already do that? I seem to recall pictures of you in the outfit . . .

Another one with bucket list stuff that makes me feel selfish and petty! Stop it! This thread is about me feeling GOOD about accomplishing something, not making me feel BAD for being selfish! :rotfl2:

Okay, so speaking of bucket list stuff, you know that I've done the following things from my "someday list"

Fall in love and live happily ever after.
Vist Paris
Attend my high school reunion with my husband and watch the reactions (this was kind of disappointing, no one was shocked, or appalled or anything fun. They were all REALLY wonderful to both of us. Which is good in it's own way.)
Stand on a Broadway Stage and look out at all the seats.
See a shuttle launch (I'm still TOTALLY stoked by this one!)

Here are some of the things that I haven't done yet.

Visit all the Disney Parks in the world (still have to visit Tokyo and Hong Kong. This may just be an excuse to visit Tokyo and Hong Kong, though. :rotfl:)
See the Grand Canyon
See Niagra Falls
Visit the Acropolis in Greece
Visit London
Make my own wine (my grandfather and uncle made wine, I'd like to try it)
Visit Sicily, Slovenia, & Ireland (the places from which my family emmigrated to the United States)

That's what I can think of so far.

Not so much a "bucket list" thing, but I really want to get back into doing theatre. I realized recently that it's been 15 years since I did a show. To that end I'll be auditioning for a show with one of the local community theatres that Scott has worked with this weekend. Hopefully, I'll eventually be able to direct shows again. I really miss that.

Oh, and of course the BIG ONE: Marry Scott legally!

So, anybody else want to share their bucket list with us? I'm think what people have shared so far has been really interesting. Would love to hear more!

Rob, have you looked into the community theatre in Winter Garden? Young friends of ours both speak very highly of it. One of them used to do community theatre in NY (actually had a non-profit for children's community theatre) and is very impressed with the way things are done at Winter Garden.

We wanted to see Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, but never did get our schedules to coincide. They saw it and said it was fabulous.

I hope you do get into theatre again. ::yes:: There is something so dynamic about community theatre and the dedicated people who put the shows together, as well as the actors.

Scott auditioned for one of the shows that Jester Theatre Productions was doing at the Garden Theatre last year, but didn't get cast. I've gotten to know several of the people at Moonlight Players in Clermont and will be auditioning this weekend for their next two shows "Pirates of Penzance" and "Macbeth". I'm really hoping that they'll let me direct something for them in the next couple of years. I've got a Bachelor of Theatre Arts with an emphasis in directing and writing for the stage. I'm a MUCH better director than I am an actor. Keeping my fingers crossed . . .

Teach art /creative thinking to kids.
I truly believe everyone has a creative side of some sort
and it just needs to be sparked / fanned /nurtured.

Somehow creativity/art get the short end of the stick ...
where as sports...:rolleyes1

Ugh! Don't get me started! Arts funding or arts education funding are always the first things to get the ax! Why is that? The arts DEFINE the culture of a society. We should be working to protect and nurture them, not cutting funding and leaving them to sink or swim on their own!

Where as dodge ball will save our planet!
Don't get ME started either.

This is part of why I am SOOO happy that DS was accepted to the Arts Magnet. :thumbsup2 He doesn't like sports. And really, playing an instrument, painting or singing, dancing or acting on stage are likely to last MUCH longer than playing football. Skills in the Arts are lifetime skills. Well, yes, most dancers tend to wear out their knees and ankles, but look at the advanced age of some of the folks on "Dancing With the Stars". It is easier to transition dancing than it would be to transition sports skills.

We went to a sort of "student showcase" on Friday. The kids were performing one after the other, the most amazing collection of talents. All individuals, all unique, all remarkable. A monologue, an original composition on piano, a jazz vocalist, an African dance backed by 3 drummers, an opera song, a girl playing guitar and singing while her friend danced, a hula hoop girl that could join Cirque like RIGHT NOW. The diversity is astounding, yet it binds the kids together. It's fascinating. They feel a common bond despite the broad range of talents and interests. I can not wait for DS to be a part of it. I know he will thrive. This school was tailor made for kids like him. How incredibly lucky we are to have this school in our city!

Sure, sure. That's all well and good, but it tells us NOTHING about what's on your bucket list! :rotfl:

C'mon, we're dying to know what you've got on it! ;)

I want to go to China.

I want DS to be happy. As long as I am doing everything in my power to enable that, I don't have any other goals. I frequently tell him he is my ONE. He is the only child I will EVER have, I only wanted one. He is it. So for these last few years that he is at home, I want him to be happy. Fulfilled. I want him to feel like he belongs, and like he matters. I hope he is learning the things he needs to know for when he isn't living at home anymore, so that he will continue to be happy. He has been my focus since the day he was born. So for the past 14 years I haven't really considered my "bucket list". Except for going to China. ;)
