As many of you are aware DS is a talented swimmer and is at this moment in Cyprus on a long course training camp with other swimmers from our county. He sent me a text message this morning saying that he had been ill all night with sickness and diahroea and was unable to swim this am (2 x 2 hour training sessions a day), he felt awful with bad stomach pains etc and had just been sick again, but had to go to the pool with others and sit and watch them swim! I am not too happy about this as he really should be in bed and is not a baby at 14 (well 15 in 9 days time), another girl was also taken ill during the training session. I asked if he had been given anything to take - yeah paracetamol!!!! I looked out the paper work to give one of the coaches a ring to ask them to get him some immodium, and the only phone number on there when I rang it is for someone here that did not attend the trip, apparantly last year lots of parents kept ringing the coaches for minor things they would not give out numbers this year, I am not happy that I am unable to contact anyone I assumed that this was the number of one of the adult chaperones - she did say she would try and contact them but wasn't very helpful. I am going to phone the hotel and leave a message for one of them to contact me, as far as they are aware I don't even know that he is unwell... He is never ill and has not missed a day of school in the last 2 years so now that he is really feeling rough and there is nothing that I can really do from home...

Claire ~ I'm sure that your DS will be fine. Sending some :wizard: that he gets well soon and some :grouphug: for you :)

Claire, I hope he will soon be feeling better. It does sound very harsh making him go to watch the others ~ I am sure he would recover quicker if able to stay in bed.

Sending him :wizard: :wizard: and sending you lots of :grouphug: :grouphug: it can't be easy with him all those miles away.

It doesn't matter how old our 'babies' get when they are away from home like this it is very worrying for us mums. Hope you can make contact soon and get some news on exactly how you DS is :grouphug:

Claire ~ I hope he is feeling better soon, thankfully kids tend to get over these things quickley

Oh how I feel for you. I fuss like mad when one of mine is ill so goodness knows how you feel with him being away from home. I think you have every right to be very upset that you are unable to speak to a coach or your son directly but from experience my son's school always tell you to ring the school when they are away on trips and a message will be passed on (not much good at weekends and out of hours though) fortunately never been in a position to have to do this. Hope he's feeling better soon.

I do hope your son is feeling better soon. It must be horrible for you :grouphug:

Hope your Ds feels better soon :grouphug:

Thanks for all your good wishes, DS is feeling a little better but I still havenot heard from any of the coaches but have kept in touch with him via his mobile. It turns out that 7 or 8 other swimmers all went down with the same thing, and they all ate the roast chicken the night before!!!! I just spoke to him and he said that they did eventually get some medicine for them and that he wasn't training at all today. DH is not very happy as this trip has cost us a lot of money and he is not happy about this and other issues that have arisen since DS went. We will certainly be having words when they return.

thats a shame, still at least daniel is on the mend :)

I'm glad your soon is starting to feel better. When i was at school we went on a residential to york university. After the second day 20 kids starting having sickness and diarohea including staff, apparently it was due to some tuna the school had given us in a sandwich, luckily i only took one bite as i dont like brown bread. I'm always careful what i eat now, thing with food is u never know do u!

Thank goodness for mobile phones.. So glad your son is feeling a bit better
