But by Commuting more times than you need to that is wasted time that can be used to Answer emails
Only when your commuting time is paid time. And I am going to assume that only for business trips people get paid for their commute.

With us it's 3 days minimum at the office with fulltime positions. Exceptions possible. This week I have several events, so 1 office day.

Hybrid is an option, as is WFH. Most people are going in 1 - 2 days a week, I am not. I get SO much more done at home, since no coworkers to talk over the cube, no phone ringing, no mind on what I have to do at home after work, etc. I can throw the laundry in and get dishes done at lunch and still sit outside and read for a while. I feel very lucky to have this option.

Did your office/branch of public service actually close during Covid? If so, were you set up to work from home or was everyone put on lay-off? We were deemed essential but to meet OH&S and provincial health occupancy/distancing mandates we had to reduce the workforce through lay-offs and go to rotating shifts. Those were dark days.
We worked from home. Different departments came back at different times. Everyone is back now. Some were laid off.

I’ve worked from home once or twice a week for years. From late March 2020 until October 2020 it was 100% from home.

Then it returned to “normal.”

Working from home is far from normal or majority.
I agree WFH is not the majority, but I'd say it is "normal" to... depending on the role. Our sales staff comes into the office about once every other week. There are other jobs in the building that have to be done in the building. It really depends on not only the industry, but the role/job duties.

Our work environment is the same as it was pre-covid & during covid, we are all in person.

I'm a teacher, so I work at school full time. We did work from home for a year, which is something I never would have dreamed possible when I started teaching 20 years ago.
If you would have asked even three years ago I would not have thought it was normal

Yes something’s can’t be done remotely

DH and I are retired so will use my sons:

#1 DS.....works one day downtown Detroit and the other days from home.
#2 DS......works from home but when has to attend a "big" meeting will fly from Charleston, SC to his office near Detroit. That's usually every couple of months which , of course, I like because I see him on those work related trips. :)
#3 DS....is an ATC so has always worked at the airport. Not sure why he couldn't have just tried to land planes by using radar at home!! :teeth:

As I stated not ever Profession being able to

I worked from home briefly at the start of the pandemic and disliked it immensely. Lasted less than two months and was back in the office.

I struggled with communication when we were mostly home. So much easier for me to yell out of my office or walk to someone else’s office than to send them a chat and get a response whenever they happen to see it.

We're hybrid. Working remote up to two days per week, in the office the other three days. Of course, there are days that we have to come in that would otherwise be remote, such as workshops or presentations that we are delivering in-person. Honestly, I think if the ability to work remote was taken away we'd lose staff. For me, my work from home days help to create a better work-life balance.

I am looking for work, and I prefer full time in the office. Yes, that means limiting my options to a reasonable commute, but I want that clear separation between work and personal life. I give the office 110% when I am there, but once I leave my time is my own and I do not check emails or take phone calls.

Our office went WFH for a little over a year before we shut down permanently from the pandemic. My work schedule had been Saturday through Tuesday in the office, and I still had to work those days, but my days off weren’t respected like they were when we were all in the office, and neither were my evenings. Between that and the fact that I found I prefer to be physically present as part of a team, WFH just isn’t for me.

I can see that being a problem for those who have a boss I do not however

Our company has the office open. Some people work hybrid. Some people work fully remote. No one comes in 5 days per week, some 3 or 4, but most 1-2 days per week
Same as our company. They completely changed their model to 'office occasional' where the office will be opened for client or team meetings but you are not expected, nor should you, be going into the office every day of the week. There are no set desks anymore and many of our offices whose leases were up were either closed completely or office size was significantly reduced.

There is no pressure to go into the office so I work 100% from home - which is amazing because my commute was killer. Also my role doesn't require face-to-face interaction with clients.
While our competitors struggled, the company did very well during 2020 and it showed that people didn't need to be in office to be successful.
