My fiance and I were recently given two sets of toasting flutes as engagement presents. Both sets come from very good family friends, and I believe that both parties really want us to use them for our wedding. Does anyone have any advice on this?

Also, what has been your experience with bringing your own toasting flutes? One is a really nice set, and I really don't want them to get broken.

As always, thanks for any advice you can give me!!

Wow, that sucks  Can you use one from one set and your fiance use one from the other set? :confused3

I suppose it's like travelling with any glassware, there's always a chance it can be broken.

On two separate occassions I've flown with maybe 4 different glasses - all stored in different boxes. Only one glass has broken, but, that's still one broken glass. :sad2:

You could always tell both sets of family friends that Disney wont let you use your own toasting glasses, and get Disney to provide some, that way you wont hurt anyone's feelings and the glasses wont get broken.

Personally I'm going to get some from Disney, just one less thing to worry about.

I completely agree. I had a glass break in my suitcase last year coming back from a Disney cruise, oh and my suitcase! One of the wheels broke off, and this was like maybe the third time I used it. I am also going to get the flutes from Disney right when I get down there. I'm going to pick them out during my PS and then have them engraved and buy them a few days before the wedding. If your packing them I would bring both sets in case one breaks, or if anyone is driving have them bring those and anything else breakable.

I actually had one of the wait staff for our reception break one of our toasting flutes. They were a gift from a friend but nothing fancy - said Bride and Groom. While they were setting up our reception our planner told us one of the flutes fell and broke. They gave us Minnie and Mickey toasting flutes - which was fine for us because I had wanted these anyway. Not sure what they would have done if they were very expensive flutes - like the over $100.00 Waterford ones. I would think they would give you some sort of refund from your reception.

We were also given a Lenox Mickey and Mickey cake topper and had decided not to bring this down as we did not want it to break. We went with the Disney issued one.

Hey! Congratulations!!! I just got married this past September. We also were in the same situation with the toasting flutes. The first set of toasting flutes we received were the ones we used when our Best Man gave his speech. The second set of toasting flutes we received we used when my Husband made a short speech.

You can always have the staff put both sets on the table and fill them both. This way they are on display if you will and will be seen by everyone.

We didn't have a problem with them breaking. We just brought them in the original packaging and that is how they packed them back up.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Why not use both during the reception? One set can be on you sweetheart table or at your place settings and used for all the traditional toasts and the second set can be by the cake and you can cut the cake, feed eachother and then "cheers" with your other flutes. You'll get pics with both flutes and appease both parties.

Or try to use them both over the course of the wedding weekend or at some wedding related event. ie. rehearsal dinner/welcome party/cocktail hour/dessert party/home reception/wedding shower/etc... Then the nice ones would be used at the reception.

You could tell your family friends that gave you the nice ones your trepidations of traveling with and possibly breaking such nice flutes. Then have them over after the wedding for brunch or dinner and be sure you use them.

I had absolutely no qualms about bringing my own flutes. We got ours as an engagement present and saved them for our wedding so I was going to use them come h*ll or high water. :lmao: Maybe I should've been more concerned with them breaking considering their cost, but the box they came in was an all foam interior and they are extremely sturdy. The waitstaff even cleaned them for us before placing them back in the box. So, my experience was great.

I hope my ideas help some! Good Luck!!! :goodvibes

Thank you guys for all your advice! Fortunately I live only 2 hours from Orlando, so I could drive with them, which means there is a less chance of them breaking! I was thinking about doing the second toast before the cake cutting, so I think that is what I might end up doing. One set is a really nice Waterford set, and I'm just so afraid that one is going to break! Thanks so much for all your advice!
