Toads AND OLD PEOPLE

1960s...."Dad...why did that old man call my sister a toad head??"...huh because she has fine blond hair...well I never want to be a toadhead

1970s... first trip to the cold Humboldt current with grandmother and her sister... she says...be careful.. their is a undertoad in the waves..... what???... there is a toad in the ocean ???

1971 our debate coach is excited that we are at her almatar and she points out her old dorm... Toad Hall... though the sign says Todd hall...it was our abandoned building for speaking rounds...a real wart of a building

1973 George Lucas introduced his Modesto life thru four male characters... one named toad.. I wonder how often George Lucas was bullied???

And thank you for your patience... this old man found this morning.. squeaking under the nose of the dog

Well, my DH and I are both seniors, so I guess I am grateful for us! We’ve been together for over 40 years and I am grateful to have someone to go through so many ages and stages of life with. (sorry to end with a preposition)

My uncle inspired me to take better photos and to think about what I was photographing, not just the usual posed shots. (And I am lucky to have several of his photos of my childhood which were given to me after he passed)

All the older, experienced teachers who helped me both when I first started teaching in my 20’s and when I returned to the vocation many years later.

Happy TGIF Friends

#1 - NOT GETTING ANY BILLS IN THE MAIL - it’s always a happy day when we get junk mail only.

#2 - HEARING A SONG ON THE RADIO THAT YOU HAVEN’T HEARD IN A LONG TIME - it always brings a smile to my face when I hear a great older song that I kinda forgot about.

#3 - NOT HAVING TO WAIT FOR ANY EQUIPMENT WHEN AT THE GYM - I know it’s gonna be a good day when I go to the gym and don’t have to wait for anything.

Running into an old friend you haven’t seen in a long time or hearing from them that’s always special

Receiving a random check in the mail from some rebate or something that you forgot you applied for


Having a quiet day at work where no one bothers you or your phone doesn’t ring no emails and you can actually get something done

I second go into the mail and have nothing but junk mail it’s so nice!!!

Second this. It doesnt happen very often but when it does it's bliss!

Got family over for the long weekend so this will be a short post, but in addition to the above I'd also add:

1. Finding a bargain while out shopping that you weren't even looking for.
2. Someone doing what I ask them to at work without me having to hassle them
3. Starting a book and realising it's so good you don't want to put it down

Free piles along the street...the wealthy children are here to clear out the winter home and place it for sale as they don't have time to even be here in Yuma

Cloud ..all by itself and is above you in the pool...way up high in the wind stream...I saw an octopus highly detailed with it's eye and tentacles and suckers....then it turned into 2 monkeys playing pimp pong... they were wearing fancy hats

Kroger clearance area...so random are the goods that you don't even recognize the product... this was over 50 pkgs peanut butter and jelly

-->> Learning that DD passed her MSW licensing exam on the first try!! It's "normal" for people to take this 170 multiple-choice, 4 hours exam at least two times, if not three. DD passed the first time around and I am SO FREAKING HAPPY for her, and proud of her! <<--

Unexpectedly running into an old friend in the grocery, etc., store.

Parking karma. I'm 69 with a pinched nerve in my neck and bad knees. I can parallel park like a champ, but if I don't have to turn my neck much to park, or can find a "close" space to where I'm headed, I say a little "thanks" to the parking gods!

Coming home to a letter in the mailbox, or a long email/message from someone. I love to touch base, catch up, etc.

Oooh, good one! I'm sure that would be my DH's answer as well (along with getting a table seat on the commuter train.)

I'm going to say:

• Perfect weather days
• Cards/notes in the mail
• When DH or DS suggest going out to breakfast

Ah ... the strength of this thread...gets me thinking dark 94 degrees 4:00 mornings... once I check the status of the Coast starlight Amtrak I come this thread and confront my gratitude...as this is my winter.. summer comes November 1st
Random acts of kindness...more of a random acts of courteous kinda guy I am as I go through any door of commerce I pray that I can be courteous , to demonstrate compassion
So I am in line at the post office...2 folks in front of me..I am there because I have 15 letters to send to folks who send me Christmas cards... letters about Yuma living and they are heavy so a stamp will not suffice.. have to be metered...a cumbersome .. lengthy process.
A fellow shows up with a box...it looks easy... and then the Holy Spirit beckons...ease his burden...so I turn around and say..."well.. I guess you are the answer to my prayer ...go ahead of me and I became last person in line ....Acts 5:15 shares that even the shadow of Peter will heal the broken who are lining up on cots along the path... when the man is done he turns and takes my hand and thanks me for the compassion...he is a business man and time is important... time for me these dreaded winter months is of no consequence...he tucks the important paper receipts into his pocket, if you are a mail order business, you need receipt
I am next for the only clerk and by the time she has finished with me... the line has grown from 2 people to 10... and she asked me if I needed a receipt... sure.... the machine malfunctions...... random????..if I had not extended a random act of kindness... the business man would have waited for some time to have that important paper receipts... I didn't wait... she called for help... and as I walked out door I thought was this random as Pollyanna challenged us this day...or a blessing
